Cimzia Side Effects Immediately After Injection

Hello everyone, I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis a little over a year ago and I am scheduled to start Cimzia injections at the end of the month. I have heard stories of other biologics causing pain at the injection site and/or fatigue on the day after the injection. For example, many people on Humira say that they have to clear their schedule for 24 hours after each injection. Does anyone experience things like this with Cimzia? I haven't seen any references to immediate side effects like this in any of the forums, but I'm a little worried since all of my injections are scheduled for Mondays and I would hate to miss so many Tuesdays of work.

I've been on Cimzia for 8 years and I've had no problems at all with immediate side effects or any at all. Of course that's my own personal experience. If in doubt you could check with the rheum team. I have a biologics nurse who can answer my queries. As you havent started it yet, maybe you could ask for it to be scheduled for a weekend if that's better for you 🤔

I wish you well on it, it's worked very well for me X

Thanks for your reply. It's good to know that some people don't have a problem with the drug. Unfortunately, the office I go to only offers injections on Mondays and Tuesdays. My doctor just moved out-of-state and the nurses at the office are really difficult to get a hold of. I figured it was a good time to join a support group while searching for a new provider :-). I don't know anyone else with this type of health problem and I've often found that doctors viewpoints often differ from patients who live with it from day to day, so thanks for your point of view.

You're welcome. I inject myself, so I could decide which day suited me- which happens to be a Wednesday as that was the day the nurse did the first one. And I'm retired so it was never an issue.I remember being really scared before taking my first methotrexate tablets as I'd heard about side effects and I worried about it for hours afterwards-I kept waiting for something to happen, but it never did ☺️

As others have said , keep positive that you' ll be ok, and that it will work for you.

Hi TMH

As you are very newly diagnosed…..please don’t get into the habit of worrying how some drugs affect other people…..will be the same for you.

When I was diagnosed back in the 1990’s I knew of no sites like this…..so back then I think most of us started new drugs with much less anxiety than today.Although the drugs weren’t nearly as effective as those we now have.

Of course read & sympathise with those who have a bad experience……but just try thinking “hope that doesn’t happen to me” …..& take any new meds convinced they will help you……because every drug affects each of us very differently.

Of course the odds are some won’t suit you, but on the whole the drugs we are given these days are very successful….& I hope Cimzia suits you & you don’t need to take any time off work.

Hi 🙂 I have had Cimzia and it was really good for me. Occasionally I would get a bit of a funny feeling after my injection, but I would immediately take an antihistamine tablet and would be absolutely fine straight away.

As suggested, make your first one when people are around, but don't sit waiting for something to happen as this can be very stressful. Try and just get on with your day and think positive thought 😊 Hope all goes well.

Hello,I’m assuming you are not in the UK. Here most people inject themselves with biologics, is that an option? If so you could chose whichever day you wanted. It’s very easy to do.

I was on Cimzia for a while. I had no side effects at all but unfortunately it didn’t work for me. Hopefully you’ll also have no side effects and it will be the one for you.

On the whole the new biologic drugs have a lot less side effects than the older ones and many people take them without any issue. Please don’t assume you will have them. The nocebo effect is very real medsafe.govt.nz/profs/PUArt...

Thanks for the response. You are correct, I am not in the UK. Most doctors in my area seem to prefer in-office injections for this drug, but I'll keep an eye out for the option to self-inject.

CIMZIA is the drug that enabled me to get control back over my life. Never any problems whatsoever. It's 11 years now! Go for it and I hope it'll work as well for you as it does for so many! Good luck.
