Shingrix Vaccination, 5th covid booster and starting Rinvoq?

Hi lovelies,

Very happy to say I’ve just had my first Shingrix shot at GPs today…booked in for the second in 2 months, there was no problem getting it when I mentioned that the rheumatology nurse advised it (I’m 62).

I’m due to start Rinvoq as the next treatment hope.Also take methotrexate. Rheumy nurse said it’ll be 2 weeks before start the Rinvoq following the 1st Shingrix shot (but no problem with the second shot).

I’m also due my 5th covid booster (had my 4th in March, no one ever contacts me I just book myself online) but a bit confused how to time manage this.

Can I have the covid booster whilst taking Rinvoq? Or best before start? Can I have it having had 1st Shingrix shot?

Any thoughts?

I had my 5th dose of covid vaccine while taking Rinvoq. Did the rheumy nurse advise you to have the Shingrix jab because you were going on Rinvoq?

Thanks for that, yes the rheumy nurse advised I have the Shingrix vacc prior to starting the Rinvoq.Fortunately my GP was okay with this, think some do and some don’t. Have since learnt it’s okay to have the covid booster so I’ll book my 5th.

I started Rinvoq when I saw my rheumatologist about 6 weeks ago. Nothing said about Shingrix and I'm 71. No surprise there though.

I was told I need to wait 6 months before I can have my 5th booster so it should be the same through out England.

You will need to speak with you rheumatology department regarding whether you can have vaccination once started on your new treatment.
