COVID and Paxlovid

Hello everyone, just looking for a little advice if anyone can help? I tested positive for COVID on Sunday and have been prescribed Paxlovid. My symptoms seem to be subsiding and am very unsure whether to take Paxlovid or not, can anyone advise? Just worried about the side effects.

Hallo Largety. Take them. I had them prescribed a day after I tested positive and within four days I felt much better - you can feel it happening - and they stop you getting much worse as you’re immune suppressed. I only had a strange metallic taste during the five day course and that went as I stopped the pills, but but absolutely nothing else in terms of side effects. A couple of others who’ve had them have said they’ve had mild diarrhoea but nothing else. You don’t know how Covid will affect you so better be safer than sorry. Best of luck.

Thank you so much, that makes me feel better. I was worried about the diarrhoea and the change in taste, this will stop when the course finishes? Taking them now! Thanks again x

Hi Largetv. Good luck - and five days isn’t long even if you do get the odd side effect! X

Better be safe rather than sorry…..Call 111… they have people on duty there who have lists of the drugs that are contraindicated with all the antivirals.

From experience, before they are prescribed you have to go through all the medication you take with at least two people (a doctor and a pharmacist) so I’m sure they would not have been prescribed if there were any contraindications.

I had covid three weeks ago and felt the same way but I decided to take them and they did seem to work really quickly. I felt better within two days but was advised to finish the course even if I felt well again so I did. I had the horrible metallic taste for five days and it was gone as soon as I stopped the tablets. I also had very slight nausea for a couple of days but that could have been the covid rather than tablets. Hope you recover soon

I've got covid at the moment and my husband and I have both suffered with nausea. I'm not taking paxlovid and nausea down as one of the (many) symptoms of covid.

Sorry to hear that. I really hope both of you feel better soon x

Glad you felt better quickly. I have started them now and hopefully recover soon. Not feeling that bad although still tested positive this morning! Yes, not a very pleasant taste in my mouth! Thanks for your help x
