Hi all -hope everyone is having lovely sunshine and can enjoy it a bit!
I got my PIP with standard rate on both. On reading various bits in here (only discovered this group recently) I realised that I did not fully understand the question about Planning and Following a journey. I thought it meant can you read and follow instructions to get somewhere or read map etc. I hadn’t realised the question relates to anxiety and stress, which I suffer with tremendously. Years ago I had serious panic attacks which affected me in many ways and still stays with me today. I am still unable to use the underground or go to unknown places by myself. I have just tailored my life around it, hubby takes kids on tube if they need to and I will always needs someone with me for going somewhere unknown. These are facts and have a huge impact on my life. I just wondered if I should ask for a review and clarify the circumstances. I had lots of therapy and support at the time so GP shd have records to support this but I have had so many other medical conditions since I do try to focus on what I can do,
Many thanks for reading

Yes! I’d give the DWP helpline a call to start with. Explain just as you’ve told us. Good luck. I didn’t understand that very well either I must admit when I did my form in 2019 it but it didn’t apply to me. Mine is purely physical.
I think if you ask for mandatory reconsideration then they will look at your original claim not anything extra you want to add. You can’t add anything after claiming. If you want to change what you submitted to include other things then it’s a change of circumstances you probably need to go for.gov.uk/pip/change-of-circum...
Bear in mind if they look at it again they can change what you were awarded not necessarily for the better, always worth taking into account. I’d get some guidance from Citizens Advice though as this is my interpretation.
Hi KittyJ, thank u for clarifying-this is my first time applying and I’m super grateful for what I got but I just wish I had understood what it meant. I only discovered how to interpret question with all the helpful info/references posted on this website. Many thanks fir the info.
How long is your award? If it’s short then it might be worth leaving it as the review will come up soon enough and then you can tell them anything extra.
As far as I know that is correct only the original claim can be reviewed so anything else being introduced is a change of circumstances. And of course a review has to be applied for in a time limit after that it's a change of circumstances.
Thank u Ajay -I really appreciate your efforts to explain it. It’s all so complex! I remember hearing about the qualifiers for PIP like on news but never really understood it. Just to clarify-are u saying that those with mental health issues are the group these questions addresses? Then I guess it is to explore if my distress is classed as mental health!
I will do some more digging and will try and get some advice.
Thanks Sylvi -I will look at CAB advice and proceed soon . I never ever knew anxiety was considered-20+ years I cannot do many things -just put in a brave face and continue.
I now know about MR so will try and get some advice before proceeding-thank u so very much👍🏼
Yes I would phone the PIP number and just be completely honest that you misinterpreted that part and they will advise on procedure.
It sounds perfectly reasonable what you've said about anxiety causing difficulties and making certain routes impossible for you. I'm sure you'll get your amount increased. I get the standard rate without the mobility component for intermittent vertigo and hearing difficulties.
