I had my long awaited assessment today. The lady seemed really nice and thorough. I cried because it was hard for me to say out loud all the ways my life has changed. At the end of the call she said she wanted to read through the report and she would call me back after 20 mins and that also would give me chance to think of anything I wanted to add - I thought that was nice. When she called back she recommended that I phone my GP or consultant and ask for a referral for help with adaptations in my home, for example I only have a bath and struggle getting out of it now. I have no idea how the assessment went. It seemed to go ok but who knows what will be decided for me. How long have people waited that have had assessments most recently?

That sounds like a very able DWP assessor. Pre pandemic it was taking several weeks to get the results through. I'm not sure what it is like now but if you get the award it will be backdated to the time of your application.
I got a text to say DWP had received the report. I feel a bit anxious wondering. Think I need to take my mind off it. It is what it is
Morning. It sounds like you had a good assessor. I think you can phone your council and ask for a social services assessment re: adaptations and things. if you can’t self-refer your GP should have a ‘social prescribing service’ which will signpost you/ refer you for any help you need. Well worth seeing them anyway. Good luck x
It can be a real jolt when you start with how things have changed for you, it's little wonder it affected you, it did me too. I'm sure assessors see & hear it often.
I've never heard at the end of the assessment an assessor wanting to read through the report & call back though, actually I didn’t quite know what to make of that until I read on. It does seem as though she was genuinely trying to help, suggesting where you could seek help for adjustments to your home. Hopefully you will receive the help you need, though I do know in some instances they tie you to things like not selling your home for 5 years & such, I can't remember the exact circumstances for each, though one was tanking our downstairs bathroom to become a wet room, but this was one response we had.
Towards the end of last year my sister in law didn’t have to wait long at all before she had notice of her award following her telephone assessment. Whether that's generally for our area & assessment agency or not I’m not sure. I hope you don't have too long to wait. I’d recommend you ask for the assessors report (PA4) which you should be able to now you’ve received the text from the DWP.
