Hi everyone, so I take Benipali once a week and it says it’s got to be stored between 2-8 degrees. My question is, if I’ve done a big shop and the temperature in my fridge goes over 8 degrees for about an hour (I have a thermometer in my fridge) and then back down has this spoiled my meds?
I got home to my partner having put loads of stuff in the fridge and it was at 10 degrees and he had put it in an hour before so god knows how high the temperature went before! Now I am worried the meds will be ruined as the temperature goes back down…
So frustrating having to always worry about the fridge temperature, am I just being over the top?
Let me know what you think! Thank you

8 degrees is too high for a fridge, they should be around 4 degrees to keep your food safe….so what is it normally?
However your thermometer is measuring the air temperature in the fridge, which will fluctuate way more than an object in the fridge. If you stuck a probe into a piece of cheese in your fridge that probably wouldn't fluctuate at all.
I have never worried about my Enbrel, and it has worked perfectly well for last three years so I guess it’s ok!
Thanks helixhelix thank makes a lot of sense! My fridge is usually between 3-5 degrees but when loads of room temperature things get stuffed in it goes up to 8 or higher for about an hour.
I was on cimzia and it started to fail to work and I was clutching at straws while trying to get an appointment and wondered if it could have been because of the same reason, there had been a incidence of the fridge being left slightly open etc.
Anyway we have bought a separate small fridge for about £50. It means I don’t have to stress especially when my husbands has some of his friends over and they all put beers in the fridge ….
I am now on enbrel and the fridge temp is consistent
I don’t really worry about my Benepali in the fridge - all seems fine, but having moved to a rural area in North Norfolk I have been thinking about what might happen if we have a power cut. I’ve bought a drug storage bag and some ice blocks so I am ready in case the power ever goes off!Good advice from HelixHelix.
It's lovely isn't it. Sssh, don't tell everyone though 🤣🤣🤣 I live in Norwich city by the river. I'm not from Norfolk but every time I've left, I've come back again
My Imraldi has a life of 4 weeks if taken out of the fridge. We returned from a few days away to find our small second fridge, in which I keep the Imraldi pens, had defrosted. I was reassured, by the people at Sciensus, that they would be useable for 4 weeks rather than the 2 weeks originally stated on the paperwork. You must not put them back in the fridge though.I carried on using them with no ill effects but do contact your suppliers for reassurance.
A second small fridge, if you have the space, is a boon. I also keep my gin & tonics in it so not entirely for medical use!
I have a medipac travel bag for my benepali. Leading up to Xmas my fridge was overfilled with goodies. So I transferred into my medipac till everything had chilled then returned them. I also have a fridge in my garage so split the injections between the 2, so if one fridge breaks I still have some in the other. I was told benepali can be out of the fridge 2 weeks as long as it doesn’t exceed 25 degrees. You can also sign up as a priority customer with your network provider, so if you get a power cut, you will be prioritised and be issued a generator to keep meds cool. I’ve had a few power cuts and have always been contacted by them, I haven’t needed the generator yet as the power cuts have been short, but reassuring to know the system works.
Just check its not cloudy and to be honest I've never ever measured the temperature in my fridge. I used to keep on top shelf and in the original boxes. Worked fine and never saw a cloudy one. In the event of a power cut it's different if its for days but even then it can be taken out to go on holiday just not returned back into fridge. If in doubt call the supplier but I'd not worry.
Ask your pharmacist next time you are in there…but my ENT surgeon told me years ago she reckons they give good leeway when quoting temperature & time scale when it’s up to the general public to abide by the temp advised.Sounds sensible to me….I know some people who would never dream of actually checking to see if their fridge temperature complied with the instruction on the box!
