should I go to Scotland for Christmas?

I have RA, bronchiectasis and heart disease. I live in Bristol. I would love to spend Xmas with my daughter in Dundee this yea. Haven't seen her for 3 years. going by train- direct route, no changes. I am triple jabbed. The news is scary. Thanks

3 years is a long time and mentally will be a wonderful time for you. Direct route and mask all the way and take own hot/cold drink so no need to use facilities or as little as poss why not. I appreciate Omni out there but sometimes I feel we need to do things for our mental health too. Just make sure you know your daughter is prepared for anything you need to make sure you are comfortable with guests etc and maybe just go for it! x

Thanks! just what I think. I have masks, shields and gallons of sanitiser and taking a picnic. Just hope there isn't 10 feet of snow!! Have fun xx

We have all had such a dreadful time. If you are vaccinated have a mask your own food and drink and hand sanitizer for your hands wet wipes for table you cannot do more. Time is slipping by and we are not getting any younger. We have been invited to my sister and family for Boxing Day. They will all take a test before we go. I did not see them last year and they are hitting eighty so who knows how many Christmas times left. We are going tests willing🎄

If you don’t manage to get there can she come to visit you maybe . What about her coming to you in the new year . I went about 20 months and missed my son and daughter . I am going to try and go before Christmas . I know my son can come in January . I think families have to take it in turns . It’s too much of a strain to keep travelling when we are poorly. You will know how you feel nearer the day.

Hi I'm bubbling up with my daughter and her family again just now. We've already started to limit outside contact as much as possible, we never really stopped isolating fully as both vulnerable. We do tests regularly and still go out to a local cafe for a cuppa and try to be as safe as we can but you gotta live too! M x

I agree with everything said so far. If you take as many precautions as possible that is all you can do. Ultimately it is your choice because it is your risk but you are not safe here either. One thing I would add is that If you decide to go once you have made the decision, don't worry about it any more. Just go and have a lovely time.

Have to agree with the majority. We’ve all suffered enough. This darn bug is stealing our time/lives, we need to adapt and manage it by protecting ourselves as much as possible but we need to be brave and live our lives.

Morning. Scotland has far better rules than England and is consistent with messaging etc. My last holiday was in Scotland and it was fine. Wear a ‘proper’ mask on the train and you will be fine. Also take wipes for the pull down table you will probably use. If you need to eat or drink on your journey make sure people around you are masked. Have fun 🎄

Thank you all. as I am 71 with one foot in the grave and the other on a banana skin and time running out I will take all precautions and go for it. Covid has stolen a thousand hugs and kisses. My house is too tiny to have my daughter and grandchildren here, have fun all of you and a Merry Christmas.

It's a tough call. My biggest fear would be the need to use the motorway service stations enroute, but I can't see how you could avoid this. That apart, I can't help feeling that seeing your daughter would be really good for your mind and your for your soul. You would undoubtedly have a wonderful Christmas. I am sure you would see her if she lived about thirty miles away, so it's just really the 'loo' situation enroute that, to me, would be the issue. Take care, and I hope that you are able to come to a decision and that it's the right one for you.
