Hi there I am sure I read only this morning on this website that someone said there was a link between taking statins and RA , saying that the statins made symptoms worse?
But now I can’t for the life of me find it , any help on this subject would be much appreciated please , TIA

I couldn't find much research on statins and RD either, but was not keen to take them even although my cholesterol is very high (probably toficitinib induced). My GP was very keen for me to take statins, but my rheumatologist was less pushy. My main issues are soft tissue related rather than joints, I was concerned that statins would create more issues for me, rheumatology agreed, so I have not taken them.
Mmrr I've just been put in them via my gp..I tried to tell her that toc as increased my cholesterol she was adamant I had it..its a known side effect.. im preying I don't get any issues.
Increased cholesterol is a known effect of toficitinib, your GP might not be aware, and also GPs have targets to meet....Many people take statins with no issues, but I felt they were not for me as I have a lot of soft tissue issues and was wary of adding to my own issues.
Statins can cause muscle aches and also mood change in some people. I’ve tried one statin, Atorvastatin, which didn’t agree with me at all both on the muscle aches and pains and it triggered my depression big time. It had an alarming affect on my older brother re mood but my older sister swears by hers.... I’ve not bothered to try a different statin so can’t comment on other ones.In my experience you will know within a few weeks if it’s not for you and can try a different statin if you wish.
I was on Atorvastatin for a few weeks, and suspected that it exacerbated pain at the base of my thumbs, forcing me to down a couple Advil tabs in order to sleep. During this same time, I noticed it was becoming difficult to rise to my feet from sitting on a chair. So, after talking to my cardiologist, I quit this statin for two weeks, and voila, I haven't needed Advil, and getting out of a chair seems easier.
I had a reaction to statins before I had RA so kept off them. I was put back on them whilst on Prednisolone 5mgs and managed till they changed the statin and upped the dose. Really not for me. I have super high cholesterol so it’s not a decision I took lightly but I’ve stopped trying with them.
I started on Atorvastatin a week ago. Had been putting it off for over 5 years but having upped my thyroxine with no improvement in the cholesterol level and with age the risk goes up each year. My GP leaves the decision to me but I discussed it with my Rheumy consultant and she thought I should take it, so giving it a try. OK so far
I take artorvastatin without issue, and had RD for 20 years before starting it. It’s made no difference to my symptoms at all, and other than initial headaches, I’ve had no problems with it. The thing for me is that my RD isn’t going to matter if the atrocious family cardiac history catches up with me and I die in the next decade 🤷♂️
