Hi Peeps 🙂

I understand this will frustrate some - I am sorry if that's you - really I am. But you might find that you are on this list as from today - see link below 🤞

I have received an email to advise me to continue shielding until 31st March.

I understand that more people are to be added the priority list, which will allow them to get the Covid vaccine earlier.

Updated with new link from the gov website with the added priority people who can have vaccine now.

I suppose I'm lucky, in that I'm working full-time at home for my primary school. Have been since the beginning. I'm glad it's half-term!

My daughter is the same, she says it's been harder at home working .

It has it's challenges - that's for sure - but we have all had to learn new juggling tricks, I suppose. I hope your daughter is managing OK x

Me too just not sure what they will say once schools open as teaching won't be remote and not sure what I can do from home. I don't think our government think things through properly. Great numbers are going down and he wants to open as much as he can over time but I am still not convinced children don't pass it on. I have seen many colleagues catch covid including me and from school. My daughters a risk as shes in high school. Kids pass anything on they just don't get it that bad. Rant over 😂

In my opinion, I don't think that all year groups will go back 8th March. I don't know - of course - but it's just a feeling x

I'm in year one and trust me my kids need to be back. They missed reception now part of year one. They are already behind and parents on zoom do all their work so coming back will be so much fun. Like teaching them all over again😩

I wonder if we - in England - will do something similar to Scotland - Reception, Year 1, Year 2. But I think Year 5 and 6 need to come back. I'm only talking about primary schools. But we managed ok when everyone was in to be honest.

I hope though they get out to play in the summer, not doing catch up math etc ..

I agree with you Ms D. I really do think that schools should stay closed. It tells a story in itself that they are testing the. Astra Zeneca vaccine for children now doesn’t it? I sincerely hope that everyone that needs support receives it. My thoughts are with people who have been missed in receiving a shielding letter as it seems the focus will now be on adding the additional people to the shielding list. I have received my email tonight to advise me to shield until the 31st March and although I am struggling with shielding on my own I am so appreciative that I am being looked after. My manager was absolutely supportive about it and even joked with me that I will be like rapunzel when I come out of shielding but went on to say he would rather I be safe and not to return to the office until it is much safer for me. Here’s to everyone getting the shielding support and vaccine as soon as possible. x

It’s only advisory...not law so as adults we have to make up our own minds how we behave...I can’t see that it is too onerous....but it will help those who need a letter for their employer.....& as you say it adds a few more categories to help them get their vaccination sooner.

I get you Vonnie10, I do. I haven't seen my daughter or eldest son for over a year. If I allow myself to think about out too long, that's me done for the day. I am trying to stay strong for them because it's affecting them too....very much. I worry so much about my daughter and middle son who finished uni last June - what a ridiculously tough last year and then no graduation, no celebration, no jobs or anything in the horizon. It's really affecting their self-esteem, their relationships with their partners and their mental health. Yes I miss being at work, seeing my friends and family, but we are nearly there....we must keep going and try to pick some positives from each day. I have this conversation daily with my children....I can't let this define mine or their lives.

How sad for your kids my daughter graduated last years nursing so luckily she had a job in nhs ..she worked there for years as a auxiliary so it was no big shocker ...its been so tuff on people families been apart so sad ..mental health at a all.time low..hopefully things will be brighter soon keep your head up and stay strong xx

I had that letter too, it also says that even if you have had both COVID vaccinations you should still continue to shield, that seems a bit strange to me ?

Dianemc01234 in reply to Pea3

Yes. Me too. I’ve had the first one and will have the second in April. Oh well. I’m not able to get out much this time if year anyway. My youngest daughter lives with me so that helps. It’s the people on their own I really feel for. In their cases, I’d say take it as advice not law and be careful.

gov.uk/government/publicati....

This says:

'Can you give COVID-19 to anyone, after having the vaccine?

The vaccine cannot give you COVID-19 infection, and 2 doses will reduce your chance of becoming seriously ill. We do not yet know whether it will stop you from catching and passing on the virus. So, it is important to follow the guidance in your local area to protect those around you.

To protect yourself and your family, friends and colleagues you still need to:

practice social distancing

wear a face mask

wash your hands carefully and frequently

follow the current guidance'

So, while there are still too many people around who are positive, we all have to play our part in keeping everyone safe.

I didn't know the answer either, so I researched it and have added the gov. link to my initial post now. Thanks for asking - we all need to know the whys and wherefores.

I am happy to shield as long as it takes to make the world a safer place, been over a year for me now, another year won't make much difference xx

I haven't had a letter yet but our post is in a bit of a mess I may still get it. I have been shielding since last March and don't mind if it will make me and other people safer. I have had my first vaccine and will be having the second one in late April.

It is sad for those who have missed special occasions because of all this. I will have my 70th birthday this Sunday, but I can't do anything for it, not even go out for a meal. Perhaps I will have to pretend that I am a year younger and that I am 70 when I am really 71

😂 I think too many people will know my real age so I can't do that.

Have a happy day everyone. I can hardly move for pain in my back just now and have all sorts of other things going on as well, but oh, such is life. xxx

Hi holly-willow, many happy returns for Sunday🥳! I'm sure you will have an amazing 70th....and why not celebrate it next year? Or even a 70 1/2 birthday celebrationson 21st August 2021...a nice summer surprise! It was my daughter's 21st right at the beginning of what I call the proper lockdown - when absolutely everything was shut. It was her last year of a very difficult 3 years of uni (mental health reared it's ugly head) and she had carefully arranged a pub crawl with all if her new and all of her old close friends. During this time her 9 housemates were bullying her, so by her birthday she had fled to Bournemouth to a friend's house where she went down with glandular fever - she was really, really poorly. So no celebration, bedridden and didn't see her boyfriend. She thought she would celebrate her birthday this year with those who had a 4th year at uni (she stayed on to do care work in the area) but no! It's unbelievable, unfair and unprecedented - all of this...but for some people it has been so much worse. We all have to celebrate in the best way we can for now: watch a favourite film with your favourite snacks, eat your favourite meal, contact your favourite people have a special soak in the bath with your favourite music playing...and do all that pleases you. For my birthday last year, I had the remote control to my self all day - it was hilarious! My husband was really grumpy because there was no sport, no quiz shows and no news! 🤣🤣

I’ve tried to look at the Extremely clinical vulnerable government website for the information to send for my employer. I can’t find anything that said it has been extended. I haven’t received any letter, email or text so far. And I’m due back to work on Monday.

This is the letter which is going out. If you previously shielded, your employer would/should assume this applies
