Vitamin D - trending again today

The only supplement known to help against inflammation.

Simple, cheap, no side effects. It's been known for years but it seems that because it's so simple people ignore it.

I don't read the Daily Mail but saw this among others on Twitter

dailymail.co.uk/news/articl...

this after Matt Hancock wrongly told people it didn't work.

I’m still taking the vitamin D that I got supplied from ScotGov. I might continue to take it all the time if it helps.

A rheumatologist told me to take it after checking my levels of Vit D and so I have ever since. That rheumatologist was no help in any other way, mind you. 😊 Still, I take it just in case it helps and it is doing no damage.

I take it as part of my calcium supplement, Adcal-D3, as I’m on corticosteroids full time & it keeps my levels pretty consistent through the year. I'm tested annually & it's never fallen below 50 even in winter.

Look up James Campbell on you tube , he sats 4000iuof vitamins d and gives good reasons. The government only give shielders 400iu that's why it doesnt work.....

I read that and yes he is as usual correct. 😀 My GP said that figure when she asked me to take my Vit D drops in when I was first advised to take Vitamin D to check that I was getting the correct level. I take more than the recommended dose for some time now since I read similar to what JC says. I’ve been taking the drops since about 2008 when my doc thought my lethargy and aching legs was vitamin D deficiency and it was so very low. After a couple of months of was back to where it should be.

He meant it didn’t help particularly treating Covid...but it does help general health... especially in the winter when we don’t get outside & catch whatever sunshine there is.It’s one of the very few supplements it is worth buying & it is one of the cheapest...so no need to ask for it on prescription.

Actually the latest information from the government is that VitD has been shown to reduce covid deaths.

100% agreed x

Sorry to clarify vitamin d does help treating patients with covid from death. Do read the Barcelona study that is now being peer reviewed , if you give people 21, 000 IUD of calcifidiol ( in this study the independent variable) on admission to hospital before the covidand 11,000 IUD units on 5 subsequent days pre covid storm it reduced deaths from covid by 54 % . Theses are hugely significant results p<0000.1 with no side effects. Our government are failing on their duty now not to ensure NICE (the national institute for clinical excellence) do not thoroughly investigate this. Unnecessary deaths throughout the world are happening for the want of a 10p drug.

The advice appears to be, take 4000iu ( not the stupid 400iu ineffective dose the government gave away free, no evidence that works)

And our minister of health should get his facts straight.

Evidenced based.

Hi Allanah, the dr this week said for me to get some vitamin d, I’ve got it but haven’t taken any yet as I want to wait till I’ve had my folic / folate blood test on Tuesday as I don’t want anything to affect the results (not that I know if vitamin d would mind) but just looked at the vitamin d bottle which says 1000iu, when I take it, should I take 4 tablets a day? Always a bit wary of vitamins as I was told 2 of the worst drugs to take in an overdose was paracetamol & multivitamins with iron, too much iron thickens your blood & can stop your heart from pumping. Sorry to be dramatic but just want to be careful x

Yes go with what doc says ! Of course xx

Not just Matt Hancock - so many ‘experts’ say it doesn’t work - they’re probably influenced by big pharma though!

It probably doesn’t cure covid but it sure helps an awful lot of other things. Osteoporosis- thyroid function to name but two.

allanah profile image
allanah in reply toFruitandnutcase

Well it's a non prescription drug so yes the pharmas wont make money from producing and sales of it, however the cost of itu per patient all over the world v vitamin D ?

allanah profile image
allanah in reply toFruitandnutcase

It doesnt cure covid 😂😂dont think I said that 😂,but if you read the study it cuts deaths from covid of those very ill. They need NICE to seriously look into this properly xx oh gosh it would be amazing if something that simple did!,

Fruitandnutcase profile image
Fruitandnutcase in reply toallanah

Gosh no, I didn’t think for a minute you said that - and yes NICE do need to look into vitamin D I’m sorry if you thought I meant that. I really meant that it probably / possibly won’t cure people but I reckon everybody needs a high level of vitamin D and I don’t think the average person in the northern hemisphere has that.

I think the fact that vitamin D can’t be patented is the problem. Big pharma can’t get their hands on it so of course they

When I was being treated for Graves I found that even though it was recommended by Thyroid UK that you have a high level of vitamin D one of the consultants I saw and asked to have my vitamin D tested said ‘ I don’t know what the fashion is for everyone wanting their vitamin D to be tested - if you can prove to me there’s anything in it, I’ll test yours’!

I trotted along the my next consultation armed with the necessary information- unfortunately he’d moved on. So I paid for my own vitamin D testing.

When I was diagnosed with osteoporosis the fracture clinic nurse stressed how important vitamin D is for good bones and actually said ‘you can’t overdose’ - so some fields in medicine believe in vitamin D others clearly don’t - or didn’t back when I was diagnosed.

I certainly think people should be keeping their vitamin D levels high

😂😂yes thought i said it wrong lol. Yes isnt it amazing what diseases can be cured and treated with simple vitamins like rickets and the very interesting work on ms etc xxxx You sound like me going to doctors with my " evidence"!! But you are right to do it xx Broken bones are not fun at all.😍

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2014 and the registrar tested and prescribed high dose vit D for 3 months. Her consultant saw me then and said that it makes no difference and stopped it. The GP went to a seminar which also apparently said no need for it unless very low but GP would not test me. Now have inflammatory arthritis and underactive thyroid and taking government recommended dose but intend to ask again for a test.

Fruitandnutcase in reply toAliceeliza

I would ask to be tested again and when you are you want to be right up at the top of the lab range - certainly well above the middle. Especially if you have an under active thyroid. If your doctor refuses to test you then you can order an ‘at home’ finger prick test from City Assays up in Birmingham - you put a few drops of blood on a card and post it back to them and they email your results to you.

I’ve given up on getting vitamin D from my doctors - I buy my own that is stronger than what they give, strong enough to keep my vitamin D level nice and high.

Hi Brychni

Check out my post from 9 months ago regarding Dr Campbell, his YouTube channel and VitD. I’ve been taking 4000iu for around a year. It’s cheap and proven to be effective in preventing cytokine storm, the term for when the immune system goes into overdrive in an attempt to fight COVID. I strongly recommend that you review the available information and that you subscribe to John Campbell’s channel. As ever, always consult your GP. Stay safe. 🙏

A couple of years ago I got one virus after another and always had trouble shaking them off. All viruses seemed to knock me off my feet for weeks. Then my doctor sent me for blood tests and I was very low on vit d levels so got prescribed a high dose course. After that I seemed to shake off viruses a lot quicker and I stopped for a while but now I've started taking vit d again. I'm not sure about covid but I felt it certainly helped with other viruses.
