Had a call from rheumy nurse yesterday, I’m on MTX but flaring big time so now having hydroxy as well, also having covid vaccine on Saturday, nurse said to miss this weeks mtx & I would receive the prescription for hydroxy next week, then heard this morning tablets will be delivered tomorrow! Assuming I miss them too? Be grateful for your help.
Hydroxy & methotrexate: Had a call from rheumy nurse... - NRAS
Hydroxy & methotrexate
I think you should contact the rheumy dept again. It is a balance between reducing your flare (which gives you an extra risk of getting Covid more seriously) and reducing slightly your response to the vaccine (if you continue to take the methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine). Only your rheumatologist can help you with that decision - together with information from you as to how high is your risk of getting Covid 19.
As far as I am aware, there's not strictly any need to stop hydroxy when you have your vaccination (indeed, many people have been advised that it's fine to continue with the Mtx too) but... I know if I were just about to start a new drug, I'd also feel it's probably not a bad idea to delay that until at least a few days after the vaccination if for no other reason that if, in the hopefully unlikely event, you do have some reaction, at least you'll know which drug to blame
As always... never a bad idea to double-check with the nurse if you feel at all unsure though...
Hi,I'm in a similar position and it's not great when you think you're getting somewhere with treatment.
I agree with Cass24 though. Talk to your rheumy nurse just to clarify the situation. My team advised me to go ahead but my liver function went skyhigh before i could receive vaccine so all's stopped now🤦♀️
At least I'm on furlough so not too much pressure😁.
Take care.
Have received the hydroxy, but have decided to start them on Wednesday when I re start MTX, of course if I get a reaction from the vaccine will then contact rheumy again,I’m in a bit of pain now with the flare so hopefully all will be well! Thanks everyone for your help & advice, I really do appreciate it.
