Morning all, hope you're well on this gloomy grey day!
I get a fruit and veg box which sometimes has substitutions depending on availability, and this week my clementines have been swapped for grapefruit. Now, I know lots of medications interact with grapefruit but I can't seem to find a definitive answer on methotrexate and grapefruit. I was just wondering if anyone has had advice on this from their doctor/nurse at all?

I don’t think it does but it’s best to check with a pharmacist or your doctor. I don’t eat grapefruit as I’m on statins and you definitely can’t have it with them. Nor are you supposed to drink grapefruit juice. The NHS website has a section on it entitled ‘Does grapefruit affect my medicine’ (couldn’t post the link!) which is quite helpful.
I think that you shouldn't mix them but I'm not sure where I got that from...
I checked on the British National Formulary site, and loads of drugs but nothing listed in the interactions with drugs under the letter M...
Grapefruit + Lurasidone
Grapefruit juice is predicted to increase the exposure to Lurasidone. Manufacturer advises avoid. Severe Theoretical

Grapefruit juice is predicted to increase the exposure to Naldemedine. Manufacturer advises avoid or monitor. Moderate Theoretical

It says on the nhs list says not to have grapefruit with cytotoxic medication which would include methotrexate
It's something we've to keep an eye on with my h's meds as some are changed, infrequently, but still I keep a list in bookmarks to be sure having been caught out once. It doesn’t include MTX but it may be helpful re other meds some of us take, statins particularly. I don't eat grapefruit because I take atorvastatin. To be sure though maybe check with your Rheumy team. I'm also on MTX but as I say I don’t eat or drink grapefruit.
You can't go to a higher authority than the British National Formulary. It lists all the drugs where you should avoid grapefruit. MTX is not among them. Here is the link bnf.nice.org.uk/interaction...
I love grapefruit. I eat it quite regularly. If it was to have an effect what effect would it have? I've never noticed anything.
I’ve been injecting methotrexate for more than a year and eat grapefruit every morning. So far so good 😊
I have had no experience with grapefruit and prescribed drugs, because I don't like the stuff, but I have read that certain drugs don't mix. Having looked on google the advice is don't eat grapefruit and if in doubt check with your doctor or Rhumy nurse.
Never heard or read anywhere that the 2 were incompatible.
