Confused

Iam really confused by the shielding thing. When this all kicked off last march i thought it was best to call the rheumy department i go to to. I spoke with 1 of the nurses and the advice was iam modirate risk and to strictly follow gov advice where i can.

I let my employet know and they asked for written confirmation of this, so i sent and email to rheumy help department. The reply fron a Dr and i was shield, got a letter from the gov telling me to do so and help is available.

Then june arrived with a letter telling my i was wrongly advised and iam "only" CV and not CEV. Ok that is fine with me.

Then yesterday i got a text from my Dr surgery telling my the gov will be sending me a letter regarding shielding advice.

I had a phone consultation with the rheumy department on tuesday, with information i gave, the nurse reckons iam having a mild flare and i have to get my bloods done asap. Iam not sure if this has anything to do with the text regarding shielding, or i should have remained on the shielding list and iam putting my self at risk. Iam a bus driver and have contact with hundreds of people every day.

Oh the complexities of shielding..

As you are flaring that does make you more vulnerable. If you have had a steroid injection or oral steroids to help with the flare again you are more vulnerable. Personally I would air on the side of caution and shielding would be best .

My understanding of clinically vulnerable and being higher risk is that the advice has changed a few times during the year as the knowledge base has grown. I know it’s frustrating but it’s best to make you enquires with the doctors
