Hello anyone out there like me whose rheumatologist thinks I’ve had Poncet’s disease? I’m now being treated for TB and hoping this may care my inflammatory/ reactive arthritis.

I had to look it up:Poncet’s disease (PD) is a form of reactive arthritis that develops in patients with active tuberculosis (TB). It is a rare, non-destructive parainfective symmetric polyarthritis. In cases of unexplained atypical arthritis associated with non-articular TB, PD should be considered.

Thanks. It seems in some health systems, patients are screened for TB before starting methotrexate for arthritis. I’m hoping TB meds cure my IA.

Hopefully your arthritis is just reactive from the TB. That means all your problems will go away with the TB Tx.

My arthritis came out of the blue, was started on steroids and humira, which completely annihilated my immune system and activated TB. I had active symptoms for 11 months (cough, night sweats, fever), and never had a chest xray done. By the time I was diagnosed, I was in the advanced stages of TB. It was awful!!! I am a nurse by the way. So 4 years later, on the long run recovery from that due to all the scarring and complications.

My Rheum took me off hydroxychloroquine 18months ago bc I never had any more joint complaints. Worst idea ever. I've never recovered, got a new Rheum recently and just started MTX 8 weeks ago (With no signs of improvement...yet). Ugh hope this turns around soon.
