anyone been to a chiropractor?

I had my initial appointment yesterday after some people on the forum suggested it. He took lots of notes and examined me, asked where it hurt etc. I will go back on Friday and then be given some suggestions. I have mainly asked for sensible physiotherapy because I know I won't get it through NHS. In fact, in the weeks before my diagnosis I was having physiotherapy and then as soon as I was diagnosed it stopped! WTF?

Just before I left he showed me a self help massage for my shoulder and it made an immediate difference. Very interesting.

I'm well aware it won't help with joints and he advised me of that, but should help with anything back related and could even help reduce the number of migraines I have as I am convinced some of them are caused by my neck and back.

In other news my RD seems to have gone up a notch and the left side of my body, after sitting on the fence for quite some time now, has finally joined in. The pain in my left elbow is almost indescribable. Both wrists have been bad enough to make holding things for any length of time very uncomfortable and both knees burn, especially at night.

Also, even though it's quite mild outside, it's obviously not summer any more and I am finding that I am more intolerant to the cold than ever. Getting into my cold bed the other night so uncomfortable it was almost painful. Putting my bed socks on was hell. The heating was off by then so I couldn't put them on the radiator. I had to put a scarf on to keep the back of my neck warm and I was wearing 3 layers! Yesterday I bought an electric blanket.

Hi Brychni! I’m sorry to hear your RA has gotten worse this week . I have been using those barley bags you heat in the microwave. I have a long one for my neck and it’s made such a difference at bedtime. Hope the spine clinic provide you more relief ... such a shame there’s so little help in the nhs at the moment for us newbies.

My electric blanket is the best thing I’ve ever bought, I hope you find it helps.

I'm actually a chiropractor myself and sounds like you had a good examination and treatment plan. Always makes me happy since lots of people have the wrong understanding when it comes to what we do

I'm in no doubt what good Chiropractors can do. My h has experienced near miraculous results both here in the UK & in Spain. Unfortunately he has to go private as our GP Practice don't refer, I'm sure you'll have come across the reason why, this despite one of our former GP's attending the same one as my h.

I really hope you have good results from your Chiropractor B. Sounds like you could have a treasure there.

We allow our dogs on the bed, I know some people with baulk at that! But they’re the best hot water bottles ever. The one in the pic snuggles up, or spoons, in an afternoon, it's lovely.

Hi Brychni. I had a good one about three years ago who also did cranial work, she sorted my TJM and occiput problems that I'd had for a few years that not even cranial osteopaths could do or craniosacrial therapist. She sorted so much more for me too but had a baby and moved away to be near her family. I've not been able to find anyone as good since and a cranial osteo has now messed up my jaw again. I'm glad she's happy but I do miss her.

I used to work for a chiropractor and he had many returning clients. It was quite costly for anyone to go and see him, but they all said his treatment had helped. Well worth trying would be my verdict. They can't treat everything - infectious diseases being the main exclusions - but they do claim to help a lot of conditions. As his receptionist, I would take calls and make appointments. A good many people would ring up and begin talking about their feet! In the end I kept the phone number of a couple of chiropodists in the area, so many people would get confused between the similar names.

They’re not medically trained, it could do more harm than good.
