Breastbone started locking and cracking🤔

Does anyone else experience a tightness in their chest and then a cracking noise? It is mostly in my breastbone area. Have a really tight feeling in my chest and then it will make a cracking noise. This has just started this week for me. Not too concerned about it just curious to why it has started to just happen this week. Gail x

Thanks, this is good to know. I take Naproxen every day so should settle it back down. Is it connected to RD? x

They said did could be reflux .... NO IT WASN’T I know the difference. I was going through a bad flare at the time and this time I’ve been gardening and washing windows so I’m blaming that. There is something called chondritis that’s connected to RA I believe it was this for me

Definitely not reflux as have GERD which causes a constant cough for me although not so much now as it is controlled much better these days after seeing ENT who diagnosed both allergic rhinitis and GERD. The X-ray process for GERD was an experience. 😂. I have had several bouts of Costochondritis now so think it is this playing up a little. Just getting over an infection and it is causing a little bit of a flare. Lots of swollen joints and fatigue. Couldn’t move my finger at all this morning as it has completely locked. Never a dull day. I’m still standing though in the words of Elton John. 😂 x

Sorry to hear it is not a great day for you. Hoping you can have a day with lots of rest. I’ve been very lazy so far this today. Take care 😊 x

It is quite common to get inflammation in the joints between the breast bone and the ribs (costo-condritis). If you feel down either side of the breast bone, do the joints feel tender or sore?

It is also possible that the noise is just from fluid moving in the joints after you have been staying in one position for some time - everything stiffens up and then cracks as you stretch.

Yes Oldtimer the joints there do feel a little tender. I seem a little prone to Costochondritis. Had several bouts of it in the last year or so. Blinking painful. x

Yes I get that regularly , its one of my worst symptoms . I use painkillers and ice packs. I occasionally need steroids if it gets too bad xx feel for you

Bless you lovely. I am sure my anti inflammatory tablets and painkillers will sort it. Will try the ice packs though too as didn’t think about that. xx

I've had pain and tightness in my breastbone area off and on for many years. I think it's probably linked to OA in the base of my neck rather than costochondritis as I don't have any discomfort in my ribs.

Aww not nice having OA in the base of your neck. I have the pain in my ribs too. Not had the pain in my breastbone until this week though. Not to worry though. I’m sure it will go as quickly as it appeared. x
