WRIST FUSION

I has SLAC surgery IN May 2019 and still have burning sensation and pain still on movement. Doctor did a Cortisone shot to see about settling it down however it didn't work, Now seeing the new MRI it shows the bone moving down is on fire and the bottom area is cracked off. A total fusion is necessary from my Doctor, He suggested a second opinion so I am doing that. Not sure about the idea of losing my wrist movement all together but the pain and burning cant be tolerated.

Hi. I had a total wrist fusion on November 29th. Due to Keinbocks disease and RA. If you’re anything like I was then you won’t notice much difference as I was really not bending my wrist much due to the pain and discomfort, crunching moving bones and lack of strength in my wrist anyway. I am back to the surgeon next week to get an X-ray of it so see how it’s all doing and hopefully get the cast removed. So far it’s good. Pain has been a lot less than I was expecting as I was told mine would be a very complex and painful procedure.

Glad your doing well...I had that slac surgery which I was hoping to work si going back in to do this surgery was not on my radar bit I will see what the second opinion doc says, I am not thrilled with with just finger moment like I have now in the cast he put me in so i am hoping to hear how well your movement is after a few months now, Thanks for the feedback

I haven’t had this done but both my wrists are almost totally fused (not straight) due to RA. I have about 5 degree movement. Of course with this I get large amounts of pain especially if they get knocked. A wrist fusion would avoid all that pain and you do get used to your wrists not bending and adapt accordingly. Let us know how you get on and what you decide 😊
