Diagnosed with ra about a year ago and been taking mtx for about 17 weeks and now I’m getting pain on the joints on my feet where my toes meet my main part of the foot I’m just wondering if this is maybe the side effects of ra or maybe the meds, it’s like a burning sensation when I walk and very painful
Feet pain : Diagnosed with ra about a year ago and been... - NRAS
Feet pain
Probably not a side effect of Mtx......Have a word with your Rheumy nurse...maybe she will ask your rheumatologist if you need to up the Mtx.
How are the rest of your joints.....are they feeling easier?
Do try not to think every new ache or pain is caused by the drugs you are taking.......it could be as simple as getting new insoles in your shoes.
I've had problems with the same toe joints for many years due to RA . Best contact rheumy as you might need a meds review to try and get your RA under better control.
edit...stupidly forgot to say that my GP referred me to a podiatrist where I had orthotic insoles made which did help.
Mortons Nuroma ? Look up this condition as its like walking on broken glass but not RA related in some cases. It is treatable with orthotics or surgery. Mine done twice, simple to fix so go to GP and ask for a referral to podiatrist. Firm soled shoes with small heel can help.
I suffer with my toes and feet in general it is part of my RD I’m getting orthotics made
Presumably you were given MTX a few months ago as your disease was not fully controlled? Sounds as if it is still not controlled as this sort of foot pain can be a classic RA symptom (could also be a neuroma, but less likely if on both feet). Talk to your rheumy team about it, and reviewing your meds.
I also get bad pain in my feet due to RA I recently had some ultrasound scans done on my feet which showed that I have a lot of inflammation there. I see a podiatrist about every 4 months as I have psoriatic toe nails but she doesn’t take much notice of me when I say about the pain in my feet. Nearly 5 years ago I had my big toe joint replaced but it is now just as painful again which is disappointing.
I agree with Medway-Lady. My GP had never heard of Morton's Neuroma when I queried it so he sent me for an ultrasound scan. We discovered 1 neuroma in one foot and 2 in other. I decided against surgery and had orthotics made but just found cushioned Skechers shoes help me. It's a feeling of walking on a small marble on the pad of your foot where the toe meets. I believe It's a thickening of tissue around one of the nerves. It's a numby, nervy, burny uncomfortable pain. Also a feeling like cotton tied tight round the base of the toe. It's worth looking it up.
Take care.
Probably too much walking shopping for xmas in footwear thats squashing the toes oreven too loose around the toes.I have had same pain when I have done the above ,but quite honestly even the duvet on top of toes can set it off.I find I can get relief by rubbing in Votorol gel Or Ibuprofen gel.Hope this helps.I also have R.A. and am on MTX.But got this type of pain well before my meds
I've had a lot of foot problems/pain before and after starting on meds (I'm now on hydroxy). My rheumy nurse has referred me for more ultrasound's (next week) to check for Mortons neuroma and to orthotics. I think I may have some OA as well as RA ☹️ oh deep joy... sigh
Hi buckybri. I'm Zeus 49. I too have a burning sensation at the bottom of my feet. I have also got a ruptured tendon in my big toe. I was wondering if anyone has ever had a tendon fixed and what we're the results? I don't know if the burning sensation you have got is due to RA. You could probably ask ure gp. Or a podiatrist. I hope you get sum relief cud be ure inflammation markers are up. Best to ask the professionals. I wish you luck.
Hi buckybri. It's zeus49. That is a long time to be on your feet. Concrete very cold. No wonder you feel as if you're walking on glass. You could do with some nice warm insoles . Maybe soak ure feet and rest them when you can. I'm sorry you're in pain. I do hope you can get some relief.
Maybe investigate Magnesium transdermal spray.
