Well that explains why some of us struggle with it!

I think everyone does to a greater or lesser degree.

In fact, I genuinely thought I'd entered early stage dementia and had no idea of it being a part of our condition, 'til I stumbled on this site a few months ago.

Now I can blame being weird and forgetful on the condition. 🤪🤭

Nice to know we are not making it up or how disabled we are with it. Just wish there was something they could do....

Hi dembones not heard from you for a while. How you doing?

Hi.

Long time no input.

My right hand now turns about 30° to the right.

Up to 20mg on the Mtx, but refusing to take any Nsaids.

My rheumy tried to coax me into giving Hydroclor a go, but they're more trouble than they're worth, at least to me.

I had a duodenal ulcer at a young age and went through hell for around 30yrs, 'til I got the three anti-Bs cure and I was on the Naproxen just long enough to know it was taking me down the wrong path.

Other than that, I think the Mtx is starting to kick in.

Three weeks in I knew the dosage had to be upped, so requested it.

I feel guilty that so many folk have a bad time on it, but it's caused me no problems, so far.

This new study should hopefully explain and verify that brain fog is factual, rather than the fevered imagination of folk given to fibs/exaggeration.

Having said that, if I catch hypochondria I'll have the full set! 😜😂

How's things with you?

Sorry to hear you still haven't found your ideal solution yet and keeping my fingers...well, as near to crossed for you in hoping your aren't positive for Sjogrens.

I stick with the Independent, RT and Sputnik.

They are all biased, but the news is more factual than MSN. Lol.

Chinese phone, Russian news sources.

Gitmo Bay for me at this rate.

👀🚔👮‍♂️😜😂😂

I spent a couple of years on Sulfasalazine, but still had brain fog, so was fairly certain the Mtx connection some folk though existed wasn't the root cause.

It also makes me wonder if that's why folk suffer brain fog after heavy drinking, because the brain swells, due to dehydration.

Never suffered a hangover, personally, but from what some have said I think there's a connection.

Love the photo that goes with the article.

Reminds me of myself, but I'm dishevelled, instead of regal, as I wake up in some inexplicable place, after a heavy night on the booze. 😉😂

Looks like the theories in "The inflamed mind" by Edward Bullmore are getting some credibility. Fortunately more and more health professionals recognise that body and mind are not separate entities.

It's taken them the longest time to contemplate the holistic approach, sadly.

I cannot concentrate more than 30 minutes... need breaks. I used to concentrate all day, skip lunch, got so immersed in research for my degree!

Hydroxychloroquine definitely worsened brain fog, could not remember anything unless I wrote it down. I too thought I was going into early onset Alzheimer’s, like my mother who died of it at age 73 after ten years of it, caused heart failure on top of robbing her of most of her life memories. Horrible disease. RA is so cruel too.

I avoid NSAIDs too, and omeprazole. NSAIDs don’t help me anyway, though Piroxicam gel applied locally often does reduce pain to injured ligaments and help with swelling.

I have been feeling rather low, fed up with so much uncontrolled pain this year. But there’s always so much more we might be suffering... got to be grateful for what we can still do. I hope MTX does the job for you!

The pain, the difficulty of movement, the fatigue, the brain fog, the resultant frustration with the condition and the limitations it imposes on us is debilitating, but no rheumy I've heard of brings that to your attention on the initial appointment.

I recently discovered half my wardrobe is of no use, as I'm unable to wear some of my shirts, because they don't fasten over my wrist braces and the same with pullovers, cardigans, jackets and coats.

I'd have continued with the Nsaids, but the Omeprazole was leading my kidneys a merry dance.

The gel sounds promising, though.

I used a gel a few years back, but can't recall it's name.

Trouble was it stained my skin bright orange, which turned to a horrendous shade of brown. Lol.

However, as you rightly pointed out, things could be a lot worse and I constantly bear that in mind.

I've been on 20mg of Mtx for a couple of weeks now and there is a slight improvement.

If it doesn't improve further I still have the option of upping the dose in a few weeks.

If that doesn't produce the right results, there's alternatives.

Just a matter of trial and error.

Being pragmatic, I assume I'll need an operation on my right hand to rectify the problem and bring it back into realignment at some point in the future, but I can always learn to fastdraw my gun with my left hand, although I s'pose the similtaneous backflips and cartwheels are a no-no, in case I accidently shoot an innocent bystander. Lol.

It's a very small study. I'm sure if it had not confirmed our observations that fatigue and inflammation seem to go together, we would have dismissed it! But it's interesting and I hope that it may go some way to getting fatigue accepted as a real handicapping factor.

Truth be told, had it not confirmed what we already knew I'd have still posted it, as any study can only deepen our understanding.

"Publish and be damned!"

Or not, in this particular case. 😜😂😂
