Fitbit advice please

I am searching for a fitbit to help encourage me to exercise (when possible) but have happened upon a possible issue where another RA sufferer commented that she had experienced a flare as soon as she started wearing the Alta fitbit. Others posted similar issues but the discussion seemed to fizzle out in 2016.

Does anyone have current knowledge on this subject? Thank you in advance.

I'm not sure, I wear a fitbit and have no issues with it. I'm not long diagnosed so maybe someone else would know more about it.

I’ve been wearing a FitBit for 2 years with no issues - pre and post diagnosis :)

I've never had a problem with my fitbit, and locally can’t see a reason that it would cause a flare unless enthusiasm made the person exercise more than normal very suddenly.

I’ve just changed to a tracker that does steps and heart rate, so I can try to monitor/increase my cardio effort as well by trying to walk a bit faster now and then.

I recommend a heart rate monitor instead as they are more accurate. Brands such as Polar. You dont need anything fancy...they have some ridiculously high tech ones (so expensive too, but geared more toward athletes).

Hi have a FitBit HR and love it! I’ve had no problems and it really does make me move more - I do a minimum of 10K steps every day (when I was diagnosed 6 years ago I couldn’t walk 100 yards). It has a sleep and heart monitor too. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine! x

I’ve worn a Fitbit Alta HR for years - I’m on my second one - and never had any problems. I’ve looked at my pulse on that at the same time as using my pulse meter and both the same as it is when I use my Omron home blood pressure meter so I’ve got no reason to think it isn’t accurate. As for distances measured that doesn’t bother me, it’s just the encouragement I get from seeing the number of steps that I’m interested in. Definitely keeps you moving.

Thank you so much for all your comments!

I am heartily reassured and look forward to enjoying wearing one and (hopefully) reaping the benefits.

Hi, I love my Fitbit charge 2 and absolutely motivates me. I did over 31000 steps yesterday, to think when first diagnosed I struggled to get to the ensuite!!

If you don't want to shell out on a Fitbit please go on Amazon and look at Mi band 3 and Mi band 4. They are so much cheaper, waterproof and one charge lasts over a month. I got some for my kids but I'll definitely be getting one once my more expensive Fitbit breaks. Good luck and hope you enjoy the new toy!!

I wear a fitbit around my wrist 24/7 with no problems and have done so for around a year.

Previously I had one of the old clip on type that was in my trouser pocket, the switch to the wrist one made no difference to my health.

I’ve had a Fitbits for years with no problem. I love my FB Blaze and it great to be able to see how many steps you do each day as well as other things. Don’t worry just go for it.
