Hi I’m still waiting to hear if anyone has had a wrist replacement. The consultant says I need this doing as my wrist is knackered.

I can’t find anyone who has had this procedure done. Not even my own GP he doesn’t know anyone either !! Sadly

Maybe you could ask your rheumy nurse or physio if they know anyone who has had the procedure?

I’m sure most people who have had it would be happy to contact you to say how it was for them.

Is it your rheumy consultant or the surgeon who says your wrist is knackered? If the rheumy ask who he will refer you to......then ask the surgeon if he can put you in touch with someone he has operated on. ....and I’d find out how often he has carried out this operation.

Hi I have had both my wrists fused some 30 odd years ago due to the fact, that like you, they were completely knackered by RA. Howevever, after having the right one done first, I was told that they were going to insert a prosthetic joint in the left one. I have this done and I was able to bend my wrist to some extent. After about a year I went back for a check with the surgeon and had X-rays and was then told that because it was new technology the artificial joint had started to split. I was then told that they had no alternative but to fuse the left one. I , of

course bead this done and have found both of them to be satisfactory. It does take a little getting used to, the fact that one cannot bend your wrists but they are relatively painless. That was over thirty years ago and I am sure technology has come on leaps and bounds with prosthetics. I have since had a prosthetic elbow joint which is fine. I am sure you would benefit from a consultation with a n orthopaedic surgeon. I wish you all the best and hope you find success.

My wrists fixed by themselves 40 years ago and I don't have a problem. They're not painful and I can function ok with them. Good luck with your decision.
