Ok, so morphine patches for you. That's really bad luck. Did he offer any good alternatives that would help?
That’s a shame i hope there is an alternative for you. I had to fight tooth and nail to get them but they do help a little. I suppose they are ‘addictive’ apparently but so is just about every other painkiller. I’ve just got a new supply and I can’t see a mention that it is not suitable for type 1 DM but I’m not a doctor and I suppose Fentanyl or morphine patches aren’t for everyone with all the side effects but when nothing else works and you’re desperate then they’re great.
I'm sure your GP knows which is best for you but I am a little surprised at him giving diabetes as a reason. Buprenorphine transdermal patches are used reasonably successfully for diabetic peripheral neuropathy in both types 1 & 2. Ah well, maybe whichever alternate pain relief he's prescribed will be the one to give you some respite. Can I ask if he explained why he didn't recommend them other than you being diabetic? Just being nosy.
