How often should ESR blood test be done with PMR?

Not sure about Polymyalgia Rheumatica but with RA I do not have ESR tests anymore ( Erythrocyte sedimentation rate )

This is due to it being a more general test for inflammation, non specific -whereas CRP C reactive protein is a better and more instant indicator of inflammation when someone has RA.

This site is more knowledgeable about RA. Ask your Q on the PMR site. That's your specialty. I have both, apparently, so am on both sites.

It depends on the clinical progress. If you are well controlled on the present dose measuring the ESR or C-reactive protein doesn't need doing often. I used to have it done just before a consultant review.

If you have having problems, it can help to sort out whether you are controlled or not - ESR for long term inflammation, C-reactive best for short term.
