Hi Hellbells,

An ESR of 86 looks high when compared with my recent ESR levels. Where are you up to with regards to support from your local Rheumy Dept.? Are you waiting for a change in medication to kick in?

Hope you get the appropriate help soon to bring your ESR levels down.

I've had a bit higher in the 90s in the early days of bonkers RA but yes, it's high Helen. Can imagine you feel really awful. Gentle hugs. xx

Yes, it is high. A normal esr is 4 or below. Mine is 29 and I feel pretty lousy. I can't imagine how you must be hurting! They need to get your numbers down. Hopefully you will get on a good med soon! ā¤ļø

It's high, but not excessively so. It can go into the hundreds. However it's high enough to be no wonder you feel crap!

It somewhat depends on your 'normal'. How are your previous ESR levels? Is it a spike or have they been rising over the last few months? Your ESR is an indication of longer term inflammation, it doesn't change as quickly as your CRP, that is a better indicator of current inflammation, how you are now. Do you know that figure?

What would be interesting to know is whether you have ever considered modifying your diet? There is some evidence that itā€™s possible to bring down your ESR by eliminating foods like wheat, dairy, meat....have you ever tried this? If not might be worth considering?

As others have said it depends on age and what else is going on in the body (something as simple as a common cold will push up the ESR right up for me) but I was told it should ideally be <12 but 0-15 is in the realms of what the rheumy is looking for.
