All the time, we need to change the name of this disease to just that rheumatic disease. It would help so much to avoid all the nonsense comments.
Yeah I call them 'bingos' and totally get tempted to shout bingo when you get a few in a row. Sad that people have to comment really rather then just be sympathetic.
My boss said "you wouldn't think there was anything wrong with you" even though I often felt like I was carrying a ton weight around!
Also "but you look really well".
And the common one "I bet this weather doesn't help". Said whether it's hot or cold, foggy humid or damp. Bless them all for trying to help.
All the time especially the "you don't look ill". It makes me feel like a fraud and that I'm just being a whimp, some days I feel really low and sad.
Silly remarks all the time. We all get aches and pains when it's cold and damp. You can expect to get stiff as you get older. I've got that in my knee. Get some cider vinegar that will sort it out. Really annoys me when people say stupid things like that. X
To be expected. People don't know about RA. We have to make them aware. I'll be out all day today with my RAAW stand and collection box.
I don't normally tell people, they just take one look of my hands 😜 they look a lot worse than than they feel 😉 but I do get a bit of sympathy, then we move swiftly on 😊😏
A good friend told me last week that 'we all have aches and pains some of the time'
I get these ridiculous ill informed comments all the time. My standard answer to the worst offenders when they tell me and anyone else within hearing distance that I don't look ill is "And you don't look stupid but appearances are clearly deceptive". It's upset one or two people but I can't say that really bothers me. It has cut down the number of irritating comments.
I got it especially from my mom.
Used to years ago to but not since using RD (Rheumatoid Disease). It's opened up many a question & the opportunity is given of explaining (as much as is needed) the difference between OA & RA. As do many of us I have both so I can empathise with anyone who has either condition.
As an aside, did anyone see/hear/read anything in the media about it being RA Awareness week?
I’m going to start using Rheumatoid disease so fed up with people saying ‘I have that‘ and start pointing to their joints. I ask ‘are you taking methotrexate’ and you get a blank look. Saying they don’t take anything!
I had a hard time explaining RA to my husband!!
He somehow thinks it is like regular "Arthritis" and talks about the "arthritis" in his one knee!
I WISH I only had an issue with one knee! lol!
I think he finally is getting that RA is NOT like regular Arthritis when I showed him the picture of an IV stuck in my arm getting INFUSION treatment and not just having to take a simple Tylenol like he does for his bad arthritic knee! lol!
Even my Rheumy used to say to me don’t you look well 😡😡
