Upper Abdomen Pain

Hi,

I’ve had this pain for 5/6 months now, I’ve had an ultrasound which was fine and just had results back from a heliobactor test and was normal. I’m now waiting to see a gastroenterologist in June.

I’ve been injecting enbrel now for 16 years and it came to me 💡 could it be something to do with this as primarily inject in this area tho do rotate. Maybe there is damage to the stomach lining?

I’m seeing my rheumatologist on Friday for my annual assessment so will ask him.

I just wondered in the meantime if any long time users have experienced this.

Many thanks in advance

I had gut problems since day 1 of injecting MTX, which I was on for almost 1 year, I stopped MTX 12 weeks ago. I've been on beneplai for 9/10 weeks and have got problems which I have been blaming on MTX, but increasingly think it to be the beneplai. I mentioned a possible benepali link to my GP last week who immediately dismissed it. His suggestion was to eat probiotic yoghurts.

My gut is ok the day or two before I inject, then after 3/4 days the upper gut pain begins again for around 48 hrs, with bowel issues , alternating constipation, loose stools and diarrhoea, then settles again, then it's time to inject and the cycle begins again. I see the rheumatology nurse in 10 days when I will mention it to her. I am having some other issues with benepali too.

There is a link with the use of benepali, Juvenile idiopathic arthritis and inflammitory bowel disease issues, the information regarding adults is less specific.

I also take methotrexate in tablet form but the pain seems to be coming from where I inject and it’s constant and has been for the past 5 months, no problems prior to that for all the years I’ve been on the meds.

No other symptoms such as sickness and diarrhoea and it just feels sore inside. My gp thought it could be my liver, then gallstones followed by heliobactor! He has now given up and referred me!

Interesting you say about benepali, I had a letter in November informing me I will be switching but nothing as yet, I see my rheumatologist on Friday and fear this is a conversation we will have that I will have to switch.

I hope you get answers and help when you see your rheumatologist nurse.
