Ongoing flare / Prednisolone

So day 7 of 20mg Prednisolone.... still no great effect ( nor my usual “Duracell Bunny” feeling after first dose). Dreadful morning pains in hands and seized TIL 11ish... distracting myself with what I can do continues! I saw my GP tonight as have had chest congestion issues for quite some time. Chest is clear - great. He thinks it is sinuses due to the Ra ( inflammed). He has started me on a nasal steroid. We also discussed the lack of usual effect of Prednisolone. He warned that over time RA flares can change and intensify in nature... I may just be unlucky with this one. He feels the dose is too low for this flare... give it few more days and if it’s not easing go back to Rheumatologist. In meantime I am having a chest X-ray and bloods. I am feeling more optimistic. Fingers crossed ( if only).

I had the same, massive flare, a&e put me on 25mg prednisolone and it didn’t make me feel as it normally did! Took 3/4 weeks to feel anything like better and I’m tapering much much slower than I would normally as it’s like a flare hangover. Down to 13 now but it’s taken 8 weeks to get to that. Gp is probably right and you needed higher dose, they are very twitchy about steroids at the moment so try to go lower but often it just isn’t enough.
