Persistent numb feeling...

Nb.... I fully intend to visit GP on my return from holiday.... but seeking advice here in the meantime.

I am a methotrexate user with RA. A few days before I came away on holiday I started to feel a nagging numbness in my left leg, and also in the left side of my face. (Three years ago I had a DVT following a gynae emergency, and the leg feeling is very like my initial awareness of the DVT.... so I thought perhaps I was just being overly anxious in advance of a long flight) I also experience left sided numb face and hand as a migraine precursor so I didn’t think too much of it at first. It’s now a week since this feeling started, it’s not any worse, but hasn’t abated at all. I did have a massive headache during the 12 hour flight on Sunday, but had kept hydrated, and this eased once I’d recovered from the exhaustion of the journey and lack of overnight sleep. Other than this numbness I am actually feeling quite well.... any thoughts? Thanks. (I really don’t think it’s a stroke as I’m otherwise feeling fine and I’m only 49, I also don’t think it’s a DVT as 1.it hasn’t become painful, and 2. my face is numb as well as my leg.)

I would be getting it checked today if I were you

As you presumably have a long flight home, I'd see a doctor if I were you.You really should shouldn't embark on a flight with symptoms like that.

Your travel insurance company will find you a suitable doctor close to where you are staying.

I appreciate you don't want to spoil your holiday, but better to know if there is a problem than to become an emergency isn't jt?

I agree with AgedCrone , without being alarmist it would be sensible to be checked over by a doctor, certainly before returning home given it was a long flight. It can cause all sort of issues if you fall really ill on your homeward flight. I hope all is well of course but do please get checked over, I'm sure you'll enjoy your holiday all the more for getting reassurance from a medical professional rather than us guessing.

I've also had a dvt and pe's and must say that whilst it could be as simply as a trapped nerve with a virus we can't know so you really should get it checked out asap. And most definately go to the local A&E or ER, no one can really know whats wrong and even docs don't sometimes without the ABG test so its simply best to err on the side of caution. Do you take any meds still after the DVT ? I hope it isn't anything serious but please do make sure and let us know. I have my fingers crossed and please get it checked out.

Thanks for asking, and apologies, my reply to you didn’t send for some reason! I am home safe and sound, my symptoms stopped after a few more days. If they return I will see GP. I actually think it was an ongoing migraine.
