Ice pick headache
Hi, I keep getting those. They come without warning. Sorry I have yet to ask the doctor.
Yes, I get this too on my left temple, about level with eyebrow. The pains started suddenly about a month after I started on Methotrexate. The stabbing was so sharp it would make me stop walking. I was getting up to 13 a day.
GP was worried it could be temporal arteritis and put me on 40mg prednisone until It had been ruled out by temporal arteritis biopsy. Rheumatologist said no, definitely not that, it was migraine made worse by MTX.
I had the biopsy done and all was fine, I'm off MTX now but still get some stabbing pains. Sometimes I go days without any, then I get 4 or 5 in one evening. I do get migraine, but this doesn't ever progress any further.
It's important to get checked by someone, probably rheumatologist is best, to rule out temporal arteritis. My GP panicked , which is fine, but I was stuck on a high steroid dose for nearly two months which has its own repercussions!
Best wishes
Yes, I started getting these when I was about 20 years old and I’m now 60. It happens only a few times a year so I never addressed it with a doctor and have no idea what causes it.
I have had this happen , it's so rare, I don't pay much attention to it, I have had it for many years.
