At the beginning of the week I posted that I was having a bad flare-up in my knee and I couldn’t be seen by the hospital. As the week has gone on the knee has slowly gotten better (although still uncomfortable and swollen) and I’m wondering if the flare up is due to my period coming this weekend. Every month when my period is due I tend to get a flare somewhere, none have been as bad as this, but I was curious to know if other women have also experienced this? And if you’ve mentioned it to your consultant and what they had to say about it?
This never used to happen when I was first diagnosed but the last year I have noticed this pattern.x

I always have the same issue and didn't really notice it when first diagnosed but I suspect that was because it was so bad that any change due to time of the month wasn't really noticeable. I once mentioned it to the Registrar I saw at the Consultants Clinic (didn't see the consultant) who told me it was an issue for my GP ..... If you have a search on here you'll find a number of similar posts about it. I've personally been taking Evening Primrose Oil capsules for about 10 months which have helped some of the symptoms but had to watch how large a dose I took as it seemed to prolong the period (had a six week one last summer with only a couple of breaks of 2 and 3 days during it). Some online published research suggested that if you took a higher daily dose of EPO (which contains Omega 6) and not have sufficient daily Omega3 this could happen (although I've not found a single medical practitioner in this country prepared to consider this). I dropped the dose of EPO down and increased the dose daily of Fish Oil Tablets for Omega3 and haven't had such a large problem since. That said I'm peri-menopausal anyway which doesn't help.
Hi, I have noticed a correlation between the worsening of symptoms and my period. It seems to be more significant when my other pre-mentrual symptoms are more significant (I get extremely tender breasts, spots on my face and shoulders, and a tendency to feel depressed and cry). I noticed this even more in my first year of very mild RA symptoms.
