Get an anti sickness from your doctor and I found eating something with bread like a sandwich and taking the Methotrexate halfway through eating would help.

Eat light, mild but healthy foods day before and day of, cream of wheat, chicken, clear broth soup etc. I also drink tea instead of coffee more often since starting metho.

Ask your doc if you can try reducing your dose. For me, going from 10 pills a week to 8 made a difference.

IC Leucovorin Calcium 10 MG once a week the day after you take the metho. Doc says it basically shuts the metho down--that ended mouth sores for me. Regular foclic acid on the other six days. Seems like doctors disagree on this one, but I have grilled my doc and she says fine to take regular folic acid on metho day, the stronger folic acid (Leu) the day after and regular folic acid the other days. If you are hesitant, consider adding natural sources of folic acid--just Google "foods high in folic acid" or some such. Spinach, beets, carrots, some nuts--there's a range of choices.

Split your dose AM and PM.

Even with all of this I still get the "methotrexate fog" the day after but it's a little better than before and doesn't last quite so long. No upset stomach and no mouth sores at all since making these changes.

I have an anti sickness from GP which helps. I was really bad after the last one. I'm hoping I can stop soon.

All good advice above ahmed plus drink loads of water after taking. Tbh i still feel nauseous for 2 days after injection, despite reduction, vile stuff. Hope some of the above works for you tho'.

I just feel so unwell for a day or 2.

I drink loads of water throughout the week

Take the maximum amount of Folic acid

I'm hoping Benepali begins to work so I come off methotrexate soon

I definitely recommend the split dose am and pm and I always take mine with plain yoghurt or porridge. Drink loads of water and eat light.

All the best

Try requesting the DMARD Methotrexate as Methoject, the injectable form. MTX @15ml in pill form made me very sick finally with vomitting after taking them for 6 mths, and always nauseous, even with taking them at night and taking folate 6/7 days per week.

Then after 8 months I had to also stop taking Methoject, as it started to give me a persistent cough, general feeling of pain in my chest, wheezing and an increased sense of smell. The last symptom was the truly the worst side effect, for awhile (until I stopped & drug wore off), I could smell just how polluted London is. Wood and smokeless coal being burning in my area really set me off in an extreme way & I had to go to the most sealed room in my house and breath oxygen ( & later bought an airpurifier). The consultant had never heard of this particular side effect, but neurological toxicity from meds is noted in research papers as a side effect from MTX etc.

My rheumy told me robitussin DM can help with MTX side effects...not sure why but he recommended it if my headaches get worse.

My daughter takes ondanestron with her MTX and it helps quite a bit. I am going to ask my GP for this for me as swell to help.

Such a shame isn't it .... MTX works for me but unless I do the following I suffer big time for 48hrs with dreadful nausea and a pounding headache.

1 - jab rather than tablets

2 - take just before I go to bed and sleep through the worst of it

3 - carbs on MTX day and the day after

4 - approx 4 pints water on MTX day and day after

5 - take it easy day after MTX day

6 - and of course 5mg folic acid 6 days a week

Thanks a lot mate,

Regarding point#6, 5mg folic acid per day? or 1mg per day for 6days a week?

Regards

You are welcome.

5mg folic acid a day x 6 days a week. Just don't take it on MTX day.
