I felt like that at the beginning but it gradually improved.

What dose was it and what dose tablets were you taking previously?

More gets into your system via injection so when I went from 15mg tablets to 20mg injections it was quite a shock to the system.

Keep taking the Folic Acid and use the usual tricks of drinking lots of water, eating small amounts regularly and for the nausia try peppermint and ginger in any form you prefer.

Once you're doing the injections at home (I presume that yesterday was with the nurse?) you can experiment with the time of day and may find one that suits you better.

Yes the MTX hangover . Sometimes takes a while to settle down and I still get the odd bad one . No rhyme or reason. Lots of water the day before and the day of your injection. The timing of the injection may help . We are all individual on that one. Many take it late afternoon or early evening so they sleep through the after effects. The best time for me is lunch time so by the time I go to bed any side effects won’t bother me. A bit of trial and error required. X

Yes, me. For me it got worse and worse for a couple of months and only improved when my Folic Acid was increased to every day except MTX day from once per week and on the suggestion of someone on this site went lactose free. that sorted it.

It does seem to be a common problem. Some people don't have any problems with methotrexate (or few), but others just can't get on with it (like me). If it doesn't settle down after a few injections, complain loudly to get a change of medication. Drinking lots of water, extra folic acid on the other days, and planning so that you don't expect to be able to do anything for 24-48 hrs afterwards seems to help, judging by past posts.

When I was on MTX and HCQ, I made sure I ate stodgy food on the day of my injection. x

I've had no problems since I went onto ipens rather than tablets for methotrexate. Slightly less mxt in ipen than tablets. Good luck.

Mxt has never affected me in that way but I do hope it settles down for you.

I remember that feeling too well..not pleasant! It is a side effect and if it continues you can ask to try injections rather than the tablets. These aren't as scary as they sound either. They worked so much better for me..less nausea for sure. And not painful to do. Good luck with the journey!

Hi Maggie69It was the same with me. I couldn’t tolerate the nausea so after about 6 months I was changed to Leflunomide and no looking back. It’s been a great part of my triple therapy.

Hope you get it sorted.

If you were putting the injection in you tummy try using your thighs. I can't take it in my tum makes me feel very sick and a lot of pains. In my legs just odd times of feeling a bit sick. I go left one week and right the next. Pop luck to when it happens. Takes a few months to sort it's self out. Good luck.
