Can anyone help? My daughter of 6 years takes methotrexate for her severe eczema! She has become allergic to all nuts and actually had an anaphylaxis back in August last year.
Could the methotrexate be causing this allergy or are they not connected at all?

Not as far as I know but talking with her Dermatologist/initial prescriber would be the best thing to do. I've been on methotrexate 8 years & do have an allergy myself to red shellfish which started after I started on MTX but never made the connection, neither has any Specialist, neither my Rheumy nor Surgeons & Anaesthetists who have had lists of my meds plus allergies.
You could contact the manufacturer of her MTX, you don't say whether it's tablets or injection but the name should be on her box or bottle. They should be able to confirm either way. When she had her tests for allergies were MTX & any other of her meds not questioned?
Nut allergy is one of the more common allergies though & fewer people in relation are also taking MTX I would think so maybe it's just coincidence. It must have been a shock for you though when she went into anaphylactic shock, I take it as she's still taking MTX she's not had another since? Daft question I know, if you were pretty sure there was a connection you'd have questioned it before but still it needs an answer. Just a quick search reveals the two can go hand in hand though, nut allergy & autoimmune conditions, an allergy is after all an immune response, there's quite a lot written up on it.
I hope you get to the bottom of this. Maybe asking on the HealthUnlocked MY SKIN community healthunlocked.com/my-skin would be helpful, or they may be able to guide you to another forum. I'd start at her initial prescriber though. Good luck.
