Hi. Sorry you're suffering. There was a lot of talk about the flu jab not being so effective this year...they picked the wrong strain I believe. So yes I guess you can still catch it. I started Humira this week and was warned about increased risk of infection. I'm sure youve had that conversation though. I was also warned to avoid mould ripened cheese, anything unpasteurized and pate. Just in time for Xmas too!

Thank you. I shall indeed...a small price to pay if Humira does what it does for many! Hope your cough improves for Xmas!

It's funny how different areas give different advice. My rheumy just laughed when I asked about avoiding unpasteurised foods etc with biologics.....round here they tell you to carry on as normal and just stick to normal good hygiene principles.

I was told by the nurse who showed me how to do the benepali injection not to have any unpasteurised food no blue cheese or raw meat and fish.

I am living with in Essex.

It's odd isn't it? But my rheumy was completely astounded that anyone should suggest depriving people of such foods. Like they take folic acid 7 days a week in the US and max 6 days in UK, different places have different protocols. But it's best is to stick to what your own medical team advise you..

Unfortunately, the jab only covers the main flu strains. Sorry you’re poorly and right before Christmas too. Wish you better.

You can get the flu after getting the flu shot. They create the flu shot based on what they think is going to be the worst for the season. They don't inoculate you for every strain of the flu because it changes every year. So you can get the flu from a different strain than what your flu shot was for.

The flu typically hits hard and fast. You have muscle aches and pains you can have a cough fever but it all hits you within a 24 hour period. And you're down for the count. If all you're doing is coughing it's likely you have a cold rather than the flu.

The officials will tell you that "no, you cannot get the flu from the shot", but I would disagree with that. I quit taking the shot because ever. single. year. I got it after the shot... I quit taking it.. Haven't had it since

Hiya Denise. If you mean does the flu jab give you flu then the answer is no because it's an inactive vaccine, it doesn't contain live viruses. You can have a temperature & aching muscles for a couple of days but I don't think a cough. Unless you'd already caught flu or a cold before you had the jab & it hadn't yet come out but now has? Each year the jab is made up to cover us for the 4 or 5 most virulent forms of flu but we can still get other less problematic ones (though for anyone with chronic conditions even they can be bad news) so if you start with symptoms, & they do come on quite quickly, do call seek medical help.

I hope the cough doesn't develop & you're ok for Christmas. x

I don't get the flu shot cause everyone else I have seen get it gets sick. Plus they had those articles about it killing people this year and doctors saying it really doesn't help you.

I had the real flu some years ago, 4 weeks off work and really ill and at that time no RA. I have the inoccualtion every year now, It can't protect from all strains and we can't get the same one twice but it was awful. My mum and dad had to come and look after me, could not get out of bed for two weeks and so weak for ages.

With every due respect, I disagree with you. I got sick every year for 7 years running. I haven't had the flu since I stopped getting the flu shot. Maybe not scientific evidence but enough for me...

Of course as I think more about it, I realize that I have had Sjogrens Syndrome for probably 20+ years, and that may be part of my body's reaction to the flu shots. I know that the nasal mist has live viruses, although weakened. The shot is not supposed to. But if you are already immune compromised maybe it can just make you feel like it. Sooo... I just don't get them for that reason

Good Morning everyone. I read an article just a little bit ago that a group scientifically tested a group of 355 people that were given the flu shot and found that they shed flu virus particles by a large amount compared to those that did not have the flu shot at all. If that is true, then it makes me wonder if someone with just a shot can get the flu and then shed the live cells to other people who caught the flu. It is in natural news, titled 630 more aerosolized flu virus particles emitted by people who received flu shots actually spread the flu. I can't type in the exact title as the silly autocorrect automatically converts it to a link. Anyway, I think the science is far from settled in this question, and I tend to believe that whatever YOU think is right, is right.

Hope you all are flu free. This is the H3N2 virus and reported to be an especially virulent strain this year. Have a great day!
