Hi there my son has just started on humour and we have been given conflicting information . The rheumy nurse says take it a long side methotrexate and the health at home nurse said u don't to take Mtx with it. Is anyone else taking humira with methotrexate ? Thanks in advance
Humira and methotrexate: Hi there my son has just... - NRAS
Humira and methotrexate
I did a few years ago with no adverse effects; until I had an accident and emergency surgery. The implant I received became infected because I was so immunosuppressed; so had to have further surgery. Now I've been told to be off Humira for 6 weeks before and after surgery! But my RA cleared up fast!
Hi
I'm about to start Humira next week and I'll be taking it alongside Mtx...although reducing Mtx to 7.5mg. This I gather is quite typical.
I do wonder if you've misunderstood the healthcare at home nurse? Mine told me if taking Mtx to take it a few days apart from Humira. The reason being with Humira being a new drug to me it would be easier to identify side effects. Taking both on same day you wouldn't know which drug was the cause.

I used to take both. Just don’t take them on the same day 😊
The methotrexate( if u can tolerate it) is to help stop your body making antibodies to the humira( your body can attack the Humira and stop it working) if your son is ok with methotrexate (I'm not) then it will help him have a better response to the Humira. Good luck.
Yes I was on mtx and Humira together along with Hydrochloroquine and Sulfasalazine. What might have been meant is you DON'T have them on the same day.
The home nurse from HAH and Rheumy nurse told me that to try and leave 48 hours between each one. So I tool my mtx injection on a Sunday night and the Humira injection on a Wednesday.
Maybe contact your Rheumy nurse or helpline to clarify what they meant. Rie x
I have only ever taken MTX cant comment on whether it mixes with Humira, you could start by looking at some of the drug interaction sites....
A lot of times methotrexate is prescribed alongside a biologic, it helps it to work better, especially people who have aggressive RA or find that a biologic doesn’t provide enough relief. You can go directly to the Humira website and gather this information. I’m thinking what your nurse meant was not to take them both on the same day. I would call your specialist to get clairifycation first.
