I have had r.a. since 1998 and after failing every DMARD and having serious reactions to biologics the only drug which controls the r.a. is prednisolone sadly. As I have used this continuously for 10 years I have developed adrenal insufficiency and steroid dependent. At first I could take 5mg daily & has great symptom control but now I’m needing more and even 12 mg isn’t really giving me much quality of life.
Has anyone taken a combination of prednisolone and hydrocortisone? Or longer-acting prednisolone at night? As I have two conditions going on it would seem better to treat them separately but my Rheumatology Consultant doesn’t seem to think this would be appropriate.
Any ideas or experience would be much appreciated.
Thank you!
Jane

Use of pred and adrenal insufficiency are closely connected. Here a link that helps explain this interaction and how part of an integrated whole where even thyroid function is central.raypeat.com/articles/articl...
I am trying to taper from prednisone too. It's a love, hate relationship for me. Currently struggling with herpe zoster in my mouth - prednisone making that situation worse. Prayers for your situation to be resolved.
