RA and Fibro

Hi l had RA and Fibromyalgia diagnosis 4 years ago, although looking back had symptoms way before. I just don't seem to have let up of pain for more than a few days and my brain seems in a constant fog where I cannot remember things or if l have done something or not. My consultant says it is due to double whammy ! Apparently the meds for both can affect each other. I used to be able to do a 12 hour shift and still go out or do housework. Now l struggle to get out of bed, feel sick all of the time and am constantly befuddled and tired. I try to do at least 2 crosswords a day to prove to myself that l still have some knowledge left. My Consultant says it is basically bad luck that l have so many diverse symptoms. I try not to moan but am getting fed up now. Sorry for the rant

If you are struggling, go back to the consultant and ask for a change in medication. It is a compromise between treating the diseases and managing the side effects of the medication. It sounds to me that the balance isn't right. However, brain fog is also part of RA. Also, you can ask your GP for pain relief if that is a problem for you.

Thank you for your reply. I am on a lot of pain relief and the consultant said it is normal to have side effects but l will ask him again

I'm sorry to hear of your struggle but it does sound all too familiar. I definitely agree with the previous responder, the balance doesn't sound quite right but recent changes can take some adjusting to. These issues are dynamic in nature and sometimes it takes a great deal of changing or adjusting medication to get to the best result for you. Even then, there's no guarantee any particular combination is going to be long lasting. That being said there are people who go into a remission for months and years. I have a handful of autoimmune issues along with fibro and latent effects from cancer treatment that have made getting the balance of meds right difficult to say the least but at the moment I'm doing very well. Communication is key and you and only you can decide what level of comfort, mobility and mental acuity is acceptable to you. If you're not where you want to be in those aspects, say something to your physicians, come up with an acceptable goal and formulate a plan with your doctors to get there.

Best~
