Steroid unfortunately only temporary relief, but so is mtx too at best,on the otherhand. If you have a treatment plan for making the situation better after the steroid jab, like excersize, diet and so on the steroid would be less taxing on your general wellbeing , if it's just to come over a acute situation. I would imagine that your overall inflammatory situation is not very aggressive, otherwise you wouldn't have been given this option?
Well my hair fell out when I stopped Mtx (long story, unusual reaction) but both before and since it has tended to get thicker and more wild during my 5 years on the drug. On a good day I like it, on a bad day I reckon I look like the wild witch of the west. Not everyones' hair falls out or gets thinner.
It's interesting that you describe the injection / Mtx option as either / or. Kind of surprises me. While steroids do provide temporary relief, Mtx is usually a longer term option so I'd have thought a combination of the two would be more likely.
Good luck with the injection, hope it works well for you.
I got told I have to wait 4 months for the appointment I replied well you've already left me 4 months already! But an appointment has come through to go next Tuesday, think I'm to scared to start any other drugs after being so ill during and after
Selbel, I'd be scared too, it's only natural after a bad experience. But, taking a step back, I believe that there are some who just can't tolerate Suflasalazine specifically i.e. it's not an indication that a person won't be able to tolerate other drugs. Definitely worth asking about at your appointment because your rheumy may possibly be able to put your mind at rest.
Yes it does work.....I had steroid injections in both ankles......the pain eased greatly & it was a couple of years before I needed to go on Mtx ....which then kept me virtually pain free for 7 year or so.
My hair DID NOT fall out & I was one of the lucky ones who took 20mg Mtx per week like Smarties....just took the Folic Acid 6 days per week & made sure I stayed well hydrated.
Try the jab...nothing to lose really is there?
Update.... I went for my appointment only to be told I wasn't having the injection said it won't work and only lasts about 2-3 weeks... I give up rhumy consultant says yes radiography says no.
