hi everyone I'm new here. I have question, I have sinus 5years,and minor kidney problem, should I take this Naproxen for my illness(migraine)?
Naproxen... Needed but curious. : hi everyone I'm new... - NRAS
Naproxen... Needed but curious.
You need a prescription for Naproxen so make apt with your doctor & take his/her advice..
I'm 32,such a shame to have a kidney problem. Many medicines forbidden, I barely given up on my pain in my head. I refused to take any kidney prescription, sometimes I feel numb couldn't move my legs whole entire day. Kidney pain started once in 2 days, I can't even sleep with my wife since it happened.
We're not doctors so can't advise on specific medicine that's ok with kidney problems. However, Naproxen is an anti-inflammatory so I'm not sure it would even do anything for a migraine. You do need to ask your own doctors.
Probably not asnn-steroidals can be toxic to kidneys but check with yourrheumatologist/pharmacist.
Your GP is is really the one to advise on this, especially as you have a kidney problem, albeit minor, he/she will know what you can take safely & what you can't. I would say that speaking as one who has migraines, only occasionally nowadays thankfully, I think there are far better meds your GP can prescribe, specifically triptans.
Naproxen is a prescription only NSAID & whilst those & paracetamol may work they're not really as effective as those prescribed specifically for migraines from experience They also need to be taken continually to be most effective so you'd be taking them whether you have an attack or not. On the other hand triptans are rapid acting, taken at the first sign of an attack would be kinder from that point of view on both your stomach & your kidneys. If you prefer not to take prescribed meds then a paracetamol/buclizin or paracetamol/codeine based over the counter migraine med would be my choice, ask the Pharmacist, you could then just take them at the first sign of an attack & until it recedes.
It might be an idea to have your magnesium levels checked or start eating foods high in magnesium to see if it helps, avocados, nuts (particularly almonds & cashews), spinach, there are more if you check online. If you drink diet drinks try stopping for a while. Aspartame, a sweetener to replace sugar, can also be related to having migraines. I was once at a party, I don't drink alcohol & Diet Coke was the only non alcoholic drink, apart from water. I didn't drink much, probably 2 or 3 highballs, because I found the taste clawing but I had the mother of all headaches the following morning, I would relate it to a hangover not so much a migraine but have since read that aspartame can be responsible for migraines in some people.
I took both before. I suffered severe cramps in my hands and foot. Simply paralyzed. Twice in a week, days. Crying for my kidney nothing changes in the end. Why this happening to me I don't understand, I was a strong and healthy man before I met an accident, caused my leg, knee and toes broken. My life is fucked up.
I'd really recommend you see your GP Daniel, ask the same question & hopefully he/she can help. We really wouldn't know I'm afraid so please, say just what you've said in your reply, he/she may be able to say if they think there's a connection. Things don't have to be so bad, migraines are treatable but with having a problem with your kidneys & if you're having them regularly then he/she needs to be informed. Have you tried asking on the Healthunlocked Migraine site? They may have more related info for you healthunlocked.com/migraine...
Take care.
Thank you anyway. I wish I had died in that road crash.
Daniel_Hay, I am so very sorry that you are having such a terrible time. I don't know what all is going on but I am concerned that you sound so terribly hopeless. I know we can have difficult times and I want you to trust and try to believe that life can get better. I am sad to hear you say you wish you had died in the road crash. I want you to reach out to someone to get help. I have felt very low myself in the past. Depression can play a significant part in illness and pain. I am very concerned that you are struggling. It is part of the physical illness. I have taken antidepressants since my late teens. I have tried to stop but I need them. I hope you will talk to someone about feeling so hopeless. I don't know you, but as another human being who suffers with such difficult physical problems and feeling so down, I care!! I want you to please talk with someone about how you feel. I want you to know there is always hope and even with life being hard, through it all, I have found purpose. You may not be able to see it, but don't give up, miracles happen. If not physical, there are many ways to have a good life. I care and I want you to not give up......things will change.

When I started naproxen las year, I had to see another GP in my surgery for something else, she was horrified I was taking naproxen in case it gave me kidney problems, so I would assume it's not the med for you. X
You need to see your gp for advice.
Hi Daniel
It sounds like you are really struggling at the moment. As everyone has said, I think you need advice from a doctor about medication to take for your migraine, as we are not medically trained and wouldn't know what is safe for you to take depending on your medical history/any other medication you might be taking.
You do not mention rheumatoid arthritis, so I am not sure if you have this condition? If you don't, this might not be the most appropriate forum for you to use, but hopefully there is a forum or organisation who can offer you some support with dealing with the kidney problem and other issues from your accident. Kidney Care UK might be a good starting point, if this is the main health problem you are currently dealing with:
Kind regards
