I had total knee replacements ( both knees done at the same

Time) just over a year ago. That was tough and wouldn't be a good idea for everyone !

It took a few weeks of icing, physio, resting , at frequent periods During the day and maybe about two months before I could get at least the 90 degree bend in each knee. It can take up to a year for full healing to have taken place but over that time, continual progress is being made.

It's definitely a difficult, sometimes painful process but so very worth it in the end.

Wishing you the very best.

Have you seen the posts from Derek who is doing a sort of diary of how he is getting on with his knee replacement?

Had a knee done, 26 years ago, and revised 4 years ago. Knee replacements are harder to get over than hips. You have to keep on with bending as much as you can, they like you to have 90 degree bend, I always make sure I can do that as soon as possible as I have a stair lift so by 2 weeks after surgery, I get the knee bending the necessary amount, and the knee needs to bend to get onto the lift ! It will go further as the swelling goes down. The more you push the knee to bend, the easier it gets. They do like you to be able to do a straight leg lift as well. So get all those muscles working before you go in, and you'll get moving faster.

There is a considerable amount of bruising on the back of your leg, but that goes anyway. Ice helps, gets the swelling down much quicker than without. Do all the exercises they say, and as much as you can by yourself. You will, I promise be moving faster than you think you would be able to do.

You'll be fine, follow what the physio says, exercise, ice, and bend that knee a tiny bit more every day. You'll be dancing, by the summer :)

Good morning. I had a total knee replacement 2 years ago as I have rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Fantastic. The main thing is to do all the physio exercises that you've been given to build up your muscles again. Better still if you are able to try and build your muscles up before the surgery this helps greatly. I realise that a lot of people can't do this because of the pain that they're going through but can I show you that it is well worth it in the end.

Have a lovely Christmas.
