When RA makes life go pear-shaped...

… some things can help. The list is not exhaustive and doesn't necessarily apply to everyone, but I hope that some of the things resonate with most of you. I had fun making it. It was a nice distraction from sorting out 22 years of stuff, and packing, in preparation for moving house.

It should be 12 December, but my buyer's mortgage company are being so slow.

The vendors of the house I'm buying fly to Chile on 14 December, so there is a possibility that we wouldn't complete until they return mid-January. So, Christmas might be spent in a packing case! But I am still hopeful that we can do it in time, even if it means exchange is only a few days before completion. It's pretty stressful. My consultant increased the steroid dose to 10mg as I was flaring so badly, I could hardly move, but I'll have to taper off them once I have moved. They are such a double-edged sword!

I hope it happens soon, it's always a pain for everyone but RA makes things so much more difficult. It'd feel more settled I imagine to be in your new home. Love the pear

Finally the shape of RA is defined! Great list Jora. Wishing you many pain free(ish) surges of stamina to get you through the move. Trust that if not a fire and a rug for a cat there are some sunny spots in your new pad. Jude x

EEKS - Moving?!?!?! I do NOT envy you

So you've found somewhere Jo! I'm really pleased for you. Is it a bungalow, does it have a studio or will you have to sort that? I really hope the move doesn't exhaust you totally, everything goes smoothly & that you can be in before Christmas but if not you'll welcome the new year into your new home.

The pear is so true & especially to most of us here I would imagine (not the art for me I'm afraid though!) but the hospital 'H' is apt! x

It's a little tardis! In fact a cottage off Chiswick High Road. A wonderful fruit and veg barrow on the corner, M&S and Waitrose around the corner. 2 mins to buses, 5 mins. to tube. I am having a little lift installed. My studio will be built in the garden and I am designing a courtyard garden in between. There are compromises, of course, most notably lack of storage which is tremendous in this architect-owned house and the outlook at the back. I have a 130' garden, backing onto allotments, with an abundance of birds. My new place is much more urban, but I am resolved to get out of London more often. I'm afraid my pussycat, Mabel, will not be so amused. There is a lovely loft suite, but that will be for guests (so I don't have to do the last flight, which the lift won't cover). One day, it might be for a carer. Who knows…

It sounds blissful Jo! I'm so pleased, I know how difficult it's been at times for you, especially with your studio being where it is now. Sounds like you've hit lucky, can't be many places so suitable in the area. We're house-hunting (or rather h is!) as we're now free to move where we want, wherever that may be, once the house is sold. Of course hospitals reasonably nearby with good Cardio & Rheumy depts has to be a consideration but we seems we have quite a few options. Just want a bungalow with a good sized garden or a bit of land to allow the girls to run some energy off! Walking them's fine but it's all done by h & one at a time but he's so breathless at the mo. Mabel will settle given some time I'm sure, wherever mum is she'll go. Maybe prepare for giving her more treats to begin with!? x
