I'm so sorry to hear this Alan. I've just replied to your PIP appeal post, I'm now sure your Welfare Rights Officer would be in a position to help you though quite where you'll stand could be down to how long your hospital stay is likely to be. It sounds as though they're working quickly though, that's a positive. x

I have a friend just got the all clear after chemo, radiation and a partial bowel removal. Only 30, she is making good progress after a year of trials and tribulations. These days the outlook seems to have improved vastly so whilst I'm so sorry to read your post I have great faith that you will make a full recovery in time. So try to stay positive although it must be hard and please remember that I'm sure you have everyones best wishes to take with you on what amy be a long journey. xx

My Dad had colon cancer over 10 years ago. He was one of the first people to have it removed, along with part of his bowel, by minimally invasive surgery. It was a stage 2 but he didn't have chemo afterwards, and he is well today. So please try to be upbeat ( I know it is soooo hard not to worry). All best wishes for you. Clemmie

Hi manwithnoname

Truly sorry to hear this. When I first became ill with what later became RA I pushed a haematologist to tell me what they were thinking during extensive investigations.

I will never in my life forget the moment he told me they suspected gastric lymphoma. It is a frightening place to be and my thoughts go out to you and your family.

Nothing I can say can make much difference to you, but remember oncologists are at the top of their game and things are a lot brighter than they once were.

All the very best.

Hi don't know if this will help you but when I was diagnosed with breast cancer and RA simultaneously I was at my wits end with worry as I couldn't work and had money worries. I phoned Macmillans for help with info about my illness but they asked me if I had any other worries and I was advised to apply for disability living allowance and a kind lady filled the lengthy form in for me over the phone. She knew how to word it..I was in no state to do it. She then posted it to me to sign and send off. I can't recall if I needed to send letters from doctors or not. Its back in 2011. But give them a call because they are wonderful with helping anyone diagnosed with cancer. But cancer and RA together is hell on earth. I know. Be strong.

Keep us posted MWNN, we haven't all been through what you are going through, but we're good listeners and won't suggest holding a potato as a cure.

I can only add to the posts and wish you all the best. I too know two people (one in their 50s one in their 30s) both have been successfully treated some years ago for colon cancer and today are fit, well, and clear of any cancer. Hard times to go through, but your future awaits ☺

My 75 year old father has RA and was diagnosed with colon cancer just a few months ago. The colo-rectal team and oncologists are superb. He has had one third of his bowel removed - by keyhole surgery, can you believe? and is now on a 6 month course of tablet chemo which he is tolerating well. I think his RA is causing him more bother than anything else.

I wish you the very best for a speedy recovery. Clare x

There are many types of cancer treatment. The types of treatment that you have will depend on the type of cancer you have and how advanced it is. Some people with cancer will have only one treatment. But most people have a combination of treatments, such as surgery with chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. You may also have immunotherapy, targeted therapy, or hormone therapy.
