This is awful. I take it if you need insurance you don't live in the UK? Please let us know where you are so we can advise you. We do have overseas members from the US, Canada, Australia, Europe (sorry if I missed anyone out) so hopefully someone from your country will read your question & be able to help. I do think we're fortunate to have a national health system where insurance is a choice if you prefer to go private.
Meantime try & rest as much as possible & use hot or cold compresses on any inflamed joints.
Oh I'm so sorry you are finding it hard to get insurance. I assume you live in the USA. Can you apply for Medicade? I'm not from the US, but I live close to the boarder and have family living in Seattle.
Anyone on here from the US please help with advice.
As kcm2674 hasn't responded or anyone from where she is hasn't offered help maybe with time difference there is a delay Mall? Hope that's all it is & she will understand she's not being ignored.
It sounds so cruel that Kim can't get appropriate treatment and assessment. We need to get rid of our present Westminster govt before they put our NHS totally into the hands of corporations.
Because we don't understand all the nuiances of what's available for folk in kcms position our American members could do with setting up a sister site to this one where they can link in quickly for specialist infomation relevant for helping them in dealing with these insurance dilemas.
We may have to wait for appts or particular drugs but at least we don't have some rich b...*...d telling us to go away cos we can't pay.
sorry going of on one given the latest news about 1.3billion cuts for folks with disabilities and these savings being used to fund tax cuts for the wealthy in the lead up to next election.
Oh I couldn't agree more Mall we certainly need to learn from the failings elsewhere, no doubt in my mind. The NHS is hanging on by it is fingernails but we must keep it, if we don't I really fear for our nation's health, kcm's predicament could befall us if we don't. We signed petition in our chemists this morning supporting their fight bbc.co.uk/news/health-35418556, in our town we have a Boots & the independent chemist we use, between them servicing approx 26,500 inhabitants, the majority are retired & pensioners who prefer the personal touch, we're not exactly overawed with choice!
That's really a kick in the teeth isn't it, robbing the poor to pay the rich, it's the limit, or maybe it isn't we'll just have to hold tight & wait & see.
I'm from the US. I was without insurance for a couple of years but was able to get some through the Affordable Care Act. But there are all kinds of nuances to being able to get it. You have to have some income to qualify. Otherwise you can try for Medicaid, but that is another can of worms. If there is a county hospital close to you, you can go and get into their system. I worked at one for many years in Dallas, TX. And they were wonderful with helping people without insurance. I hope you find some help soon!
