I have had, (too numerous to count), basal cell, squamous, melanoma, even a leiomyosarcoma tumor on the top of my nose removed. It has come to be, I am sorry to say, a regular norm for me. Yes I do not avoid the sun but try to be smart about it. I live near the beaches in NW Florida and have summer length of more than 3/4 time of the year. I live near a military A.F. Base which does test bombing all of the time, and I really believe this contributes to certain unhealthy quality in the air, if not underground water. I have close family members with the same coloring who live elsewhere and who also get as much sun as myself, that are not plagued with the same skin problems as I. (I want to mention that since I increased taking vitamin D3 supplement that spots found at the dermatologist have decreased.) Not to say this is a miracle cure by any means, but just a personal observation.
Skin cancers and area where I live.: I have had, (too... - NRAS
Skin cancers and area where I live.
That's interesting & I'm pleased you think Vit D3 supplements are helping, long may it continue. I know it's a difficult balance living in a mainly sunny climate (though not troubled as much now I'm again living in the UK, I didn't need to supplement my Vit D that's for sure, I just sat a while in the sun unprotected, as prescribed!). This may be of interest to members of HU skin cancer related sites, have you thought about sharing your experience with those too?
That must be hard for you . Do u get support from the skin specialist at all ? You would think sun block would help but maybe some people are just more " prone" to it?
But hope you feel well soon xx
I personally go to a dermatologist. Unfortunately, he as in so many others, are enthusiastic in the beginning, and then too soon get complacent and money hungry making me think I may not be getting the care I need. Anyway I really don't think we as individuals are more prone to it here but problems with our environment, as mentioned in prior post. The stats of skin cancers here are statistically loads higher than elsewhere. Small example - My own father along with several other men I know, worked out in the field of the Air Force Base whose jobs were to view, measure, record and report where the test bombs landed. My own Dad along with two other men already passed from cancers and one left that I know does not have long to live from cancer. Lucky us! Not really.
