I have had my dosage of Mtx increased from 15 to 20 mg, lately I have felt so sick the day after taking it, also I now have cramps in my stomach at times. Another thing that is a bit worrying is that my solid waste is now black. No problems going to loo, just it is not normal. Any advice to set my mind at rest.

Think you need to see GP as soon as you can . Occasionally black stools can be a sign of old bleeding or just taking iron pills.

And if you can't tolerate mtx there are plenty of other dmards. I got changed as i had constant diarrohea and vomiting X
Did your Rheumy increase your folic acid with the MTX increase? If you're not taking max dose do ask, that may ease your nausea & stomach cramps. Alternatively if you're taking MTX in tablet form ask if you can change to injections, this way it goes straight into the blood stream & bypasses the tum, usually the cause of nausea. If you need to come off it don't worry, there are other DMARDs your Rheumy can prescribe.
If you check your patient information leaflet you'll see that as A says black stools should be reported. I'd make an appointment see your GP asap.
See your GP straight away, stop your MXT till you see him. Black stools could indicate bleeding in your gut. I too had many problems with MXT to continue with it. Let's us know how you get on. Good luck x
See gp hun as previous advice...i would honestly best to be safe then sorry...hope you feel better..funny enough i got stomach cramps today and a rotten headache....woke up GROGGY...just another day with aliments for me...but cant undastand it as i was fine yesterday....my legs arent to bad now put my patch onxxx oh yhe joys of our illnessesxxx
I can't advise on the black output, but if you are taking MTX in tablet form, then ask to be given it as an injection. After I changed and took folic acid on all days except the injection day, nausea went within a couple of weeks. All the very best.

Yes, because I have started dieting, eating mostly vegetables and also taking pepto bismol it changed the colour of the output. He said if it was tar like that would be much more serious.

Ah, yes Pepto Bismol is bismuth, it can do that. Should have asked if you'd been taking anything or eating differently!

Why am I more sick on MTX then when I first started? does it build up in your system?
