Hi Nikki70 - As I write this I have my fingers crossed and am touching wood (difficult!). I don't have Abatacept by injection but have just started infusions. Had my first 3 - 2 weeks apart - and am now to have them monthly. I started to notice improvements almost immediately. Unfortunately because I felt so well I then overdid it - but generally I feel so much better and have halved my painkillers. I have just checked the paperwork and I am having 750 mg at each infusion. I don't know what the difference is between injections and infusions. I was offered either so I don't think they can vary much. I am the first person to have Abatacept infusions at my hospital so I think it is fairly new and thus, not much known about it.

I know I haven't answered your question about injections but hope I may have put your mind at rest regarding the drug itself.

Only problem is that I have very little body fat, even on my tummy, so it is difficult to find a place to inject

I've been on abatacept injections since April last year. it's been a really good drug for me with no side effects but since having a throat infection in Feb this year it's lost its effect so sadly having to come off it. Wishing you all the best with it.

Took a long time to have enough effect but kept on as have had many of the current biologics range that are available to me. It took adding 200mg hydroxy (cannot tolerate a higher dose or other DMARD's) and an extra couple of joint injections after 6-8 months to see some improvement. Since March when I had a TKR with an extended time off due to a fracture during placement and then a 'bite' requiring antibiotics we have not got back to a steady regime although things seem to be holding well at the moment and have not had any steroids since last August. Syringes seem quite 'bulky' as the needle is self retracting so take a few moments to 'handle' before your first injection - you need to move thumb/finger from the top of plunger for it to withdraw needle. Hi,

I was started on this medication on the 4/9/15. So far so good. My only downside so far is that I have had headaches and a bit nauseous after. Also as someone has mentioned in a previous post, you need to inject weekly, a tip here, is to leave the syringe at room temperature for about half hour or so before injecting. Hope it goes well for you.
