Feeling unwell while taking methotrexate

Hi, I have been on methotrexate for nearly a year now but recently have been feeling sore and very tired just like I was before I was put on medication. Has anyone had this experience? Does the methotrexate suddenly stop being effective?

Hi,you might need a higher dose or another med along side methotrexate. Your bloods should tell you at what stage your at with the RA. I have been on this awful drug on and off for 10+ years and I always feel unwell with it.my hospital consultant says I should be used to the side affect but I'm not. Hope you feel better soon x

I think it can do - well that's my experience as the effect of drugs seems to wear off after a while with me. I started on MTX and it was great for a while, and then slowly niggles and aches came back so sulpha was added in. Same as before it was great for a while and then all started flaring again so Hydroxy was added in. And since then I've been gradually increasing doses to keep things under control. But at least I do respond well to the changes of drugs.

So contact your rheumy team and tell them.

Thanks for your replies HBJ65 and helixhelix. Finally, I have worked out why I'm feeling so poorly - a bladder infection. Will, hopefully, feel better in a few days after antibiotics.
