Pain meds
Hiya katfisher. I take it you're in the US or Canada? We can only give our experience here & both of your meds are unfamiliar to me & I would think many others on here as it's a UK site although we do have some overseas members. I hope one of them will see your question & have a better understanding of the pain relief generally prescribed. Failing that I would explain to your GP how your meds aren't covering your pain & be guided by him/her.
Hopefully someone will have experience of your particular meds & reply but in the meantime maybe try using hot or cold therapy, whichever gives most relief for you.
Sorry I can't be of more help but hope you're back on track soon.
Hi Katfisher, We all have reached this stage at some time. Too much pain and not enough relief. I take Tramadol (2 x 50mg) and Paracetamol (2 tabs). I also take Naproxen (2 x500mg) and paracetamol,(obviously not all at the same time). The tramadol have an added benefit as it can give you a slight lift in mood. I have a very good relationship with my GP and have been through a myriad of painkillers before I settled on this mix. This works for me, but we are all different and our reactions are different. Controlling pain is the bottom line in this. If you are in pain, then your whole life suffers and that of your family and close friends as well. I wish you success.
Hi, I can recommend Oramorph (liquid morphine). I'm not finding it at all addictive and haven't had to raise my doses yet, so don't be put off trying it if you haven't already. It's wonderful to be almost pain-free on some days - I do try to save it for when I really feel the need, rather than take it daily - but my GP is happy to repeat my prescription every month because she knows I'm being responsible and that nothing else has worked for me. Good luck!
Hello, Im from Canada and am familiar with Arava. For me it didnt work and unfortunately caused me a lot of hair loss. I was taken off Arava and put back on Methotrexate and Sulphasalazine. Yet for others it works great, with little or no side effects. All the drugs work different for different people. I take Vimovo 500mg/20mg for pain (up to 2 tabs a day at least 8 hours apart) and has a stomach acid blocker, very similar to Celebrex. I have IBS as well as RA, so being put on Vimova was tolerable to my bowels and stomach. It works really well for me. I suspect from your post that you may need something stronger. Is your pain caused by inflammation? Tylenol 3 will help with pain but not inflammation.....inflammation can cause pain.
