Not sure how I feel about rhumy appoint...

Not sure how I'm feeling, just got back from specialist and to say the least I'm not sure what is happening....

He said that he thinks I'm either suffering with RA or fibromyalgia...had bloods taken and have to await appoint for scans on my bones. I'm booked in to see specialist again in September. What happens in mean time? He said I will be contacted about bloods but does that mean I will get a sooner appoint? Diagnosis? I'm not sure what going on now. I wasnt prescribed any medication or painkillers. Any thoughts???

Hiya Dolly. Did you take anyone with you who you could compare notes with? It does sound as though it's inconclusive with him requesting more tests. Fibromyalgia is notoriously difficult to diagnose so it does appear he's delving into the RD side more to either confirm or rule out if you have it & which direction he takes depends on those results. You may get more answers regarding your visit this morning through your GP. Did he say he'd write to your GP with his findings? I always get a cc letter addressed to my GP from mine after each appointment but don't know if there's a hard & fast rule for this. If you don't receive a copy I'd leave it a couple of weeks & then phone your practice to see if one has been received & if one has book an appointment to discuss further & ask about any intermediary meds with your GP.

I always have to go to GP to find out what my rheumatologist has decided. Give it a couple of weeks minimum, then ring the practice manager and ask if they can check if the letter has been received before you make an appointment with GP.

You may also be sero negative which means only inflammation will show up. I am sero negative inflammatory arthritis and fibro and a few other things thrown in! Good luck and yes keep pushing don't take a back seat in your health, be proactive as you are your best advocate.

My first appointment was the same.

He said maybe fibro, maybe not...! He sent me for a nuclear bone scan like you. This is a good test as it shows inflammation in the body/joints. Then your rheumatologist will decide from there.

When you get your appointment date for the bone scan phone the rheumatologist's Secretary and see if there is a cancellation with him sooner than Sept but a week or two after the bone scan so he can discuss the results with you.
