So sorry to hear this. Did you rest with your legs up after for the full 24 hours? I have had many knee injections and all have them so far (touchwood) have been very very successful. Good luck with your appointment.

Not sure whether I should add this as it is not positive. Around October 2010 my left knee kept swelling and had numerous steroid injections in a very short space of time which never lasted. After 9 months I had a synovectomy (taking away the lining of the knee joint). I found it extremely painful when I came round from surgery and for a while afterwards and did take a long time to 'heal' and felt that it had not worked although I feel since that perhaps it has helped to some extent. It does still swell although slightly differently and have still had to have occasional aspirations and injections. Medication was changed as it was not keeping everything under control but since then have tried 4 different biologics and still not properly under control. Of course all this put more pressure on the right which also reacted then. S

my last knee injection was useless too. I rested, then when i started to move about found that it had seized up. So do move it around just a little!

Deejojo, Farm and Cathie .. I am very sorry you didn't have success with the knee injection(s) and wish they had worked some magic for you all. I know we all have very different knee problems (mine are a combination of wear and tear on the knee cap/joint, stiff tendons, swollen tissue over the knee and a very restrictiver Baker Cyst) but all I can do from my experience is accentuate the positive for those who are about to have a steroid injection in the knee and say when they work, they can give you back quite a good proportion of your mobility and relieve pain and swelling. When you rest for 24 hours .. I always find the knee has stiffened for that very reason so I am stiff for about three days ... even if the swelling has gone down and I can see a kneecap again!! (Wow... a kneecap!!) It takes a few to get that joint moving after swelling has reduced I find. Then the benefits are obvious. The knee injections have stopped me from going mad to be honest and allowed me to get up out of bed by myself and not be in bed for up to 18 hours a day. They also relieved and calmed other troublesome joints, taking painful swelling away. They don't last of course ... they wear off eventually but the difference they make is remarkable for me. I hope relief is soon with you and your knees. xxx

You can move the knee from laying with it straight out, to bent of course .. one has to get to the bathroom, off the bed/sofa etc . .but the idea is at first that you keep the injection fluid as close to that joint as possible. That is why they put you in a wheelchair (or should do!!) after the injection on your way out to your lift/taxi, and always should leave you a good five minutes before you move from the bed in the clinic. Of course you have to sit to go home in the car but I go straight for bed and don't move it much for about six hours if I can go to sleep. (I usually can as the night before I sleep very little.) Then I may come down on the sofa for dinner on a tray but not weight bearing on that knee any more than is necessary. That's what works for me anyhow and I have had many knee injections and they were all successful on a temporary basis as we know they don't last more than 3 - 4 months .. sadly.
